1. Licking the fur can be caused by allergies but it also can mean that the health of the skin is bad and causes itching.
Stop applying shampoo or soap. Do Not wash the dog with anything else but clean water!!
This is the best advice for all dog owners. All shampoos (except special shampoos for dogs or shampoos from vets) destroy the healing and cleaning capacities of the skin. When you start washing dogs with shampoos, the dog will spread an awful smell.
2. Put your dog on an All-Natural diet My dogs only eat a meat, vegetable and vitamin supplement diet.
Too many dogs that have problems with dog smell also have problems with licking fur.

He probably just ate dog food. His breath probably smells from it. This causes the smell to remain on his fur until you wash him. To prevent this, make sure he drinks water after his meals. If it continues, you can't do anything. It is usual for a lot of dogs and that is why people think dogs smell. But it isn't their fault at all.

Because dog's stink! They may have the supposed 'cleanest mouths in the world' But obviously they don't...they lick their own butts and don't brush their teeth regularly.
My husband's dog is nasty smelling too!

Probably because after he licks himself continually, his slobber stays, and starts to smell.
I hope that helps!
