I've stuffed a fish carcass with kale but she only ate the carcass. Help! I don't want her eating meat like other cats. She's too good for that.

You CAN NOT force your cat to be vegan... they are, by nature, carnivores and need meat to keep them healthy. Like every other self righteous person in the world, you should stop trying to push your beliefs onto other beings of life whether it is animal or human. Just because you CHOOSE to be vegan, does not mean that that is what is good or healthy for your animal/pet. As for a pet owner, you may need to realize that your cat "IS TOO GOOD" to have an owner that refuses to take care of her properly because of his/her own selfish beliefs. If this fails to wake you up, then talk to your vet and see what kind of advise he gives you.

There is actually a safe Vegan diet for cats, though it costs a little more money and will create a bit of extra work for you. Honestly, beliefs about meat aside, your life will be easier if you just feed your cat a healthy dry food like Prescription Diet. That being said, check out the link below for information about a Vegan Cat diet.

There are websites, such as peta.org, that offer tips on how to do this, but unfortunately, there hasn't been any research done on how it will affect your cat in the long run. Here is what I found, though:

But cats are a different story. Unlike dogs, cats are obligate carnivores -- meaning that in the wild they would eat nothing but meat. Dogs can enjoy a meatless diet because they can synthesize some necessary nutrients that cats need to get from their food. Those essential nutrients -- including taurine, arachidonic acid, and vitamin A -- abound in meat. Cats go blind and deaf without taurine. Without arachidonic acid, they suffer from reproductive problems. And a vitamin A deficiency will stunt their growth and bone formation.

Um, speaking to a life long Cat owner herself - or I mean one owned by a CAT - The one I have now - "The Queen of Sheba" as I call her because thats how she acts - You CAN'T and I emphasize CAN'T FORCE A CAT TO DO ANYTHING! Some will eat people food, some won't and there is no rhyme or reason to it. Your cat will tell you what she will or won't eat, but you have to pay attention. If she doens't like it she won't eat it, but if her body doesn't adjust properly she will get sick (vomit). Cats do this anyway due to hairballs. Its important for you to make sure she gets hairball control. I would recommend a good cat food. My vet recommends Science Diet, Iams or Eukaneuba. I buy Iams and she is quite happy with it. I'm not sure if one of the three formulas have a vegetarian brand but you can check into it. Be very careful though if you try to force an animal that is a carnivor to become a vegetarian. nature knows what works best for the animal and animals need special vitamins and nutrients that we do not. They especially need essential proteins and oils for their coats that can only be derived from certain fishes, foods, eggs, etc... To determine what is healtiest for your animal I would consider consulting a vet. But its my opinion that a cat by nature is programmed to need meat. They are hunters. Take away that from her/him and she/he may become quite ill.

I'm sorry but that is not a good idea. Cat's are carnivores. They NEED meat to survive. They need the nutrients that they get from meat. Not providing a meat source for your cat will make it very ill and eventually it will die.

Why? Because cats have a slow GI tract and don't digest plant material as well as other animals or humans. They don't have the enzymes needed to break it down. Feeding them small portions won't harm them, but they also cannot derive the nutrition from it. So, if you feed them a strict vegan diet, it will kill them. Sooner or later.

Um, you can't.

Your cat is not 'too good' to be eating meat. She's 'too good' to have a vegan diet forced upon her and, by her unwillingness to eat the kale you stuffed in the fish, seems to be telling you so.

Cats are carnivores and do not share our morals and ethics. Don't impose yours upon your poor feline. If you can't handle feeding a cat the kind of diet she needs, then you probably shouldn't have one.

That is the most retarded thing I have ever heard. Cats are not omnivores like humans and dogs. They're CARNIVORES. They HAVE to eat MEAT. If you have a problem with feeding meat products to your cat, that maybe you shouldn't own one. Forcing a cat to eat this so called "vegan" diet is cruel and unusual and can make your cat sick. I hope someone contacts animal control on you.

I also have to agree with what someone else said on here. Give your cat to someone who can raise it probably...and then go drink bleach. Maybe then you'll understand what it's like to have to eat crap that isn't good for you.

You cat will become very ill or die from dietary deficiences if she is forced to eat a vegan diet. Cats require Vitamin A and cannot make it in their bodies - they usually get it from the liver of their prey. Cars require taurine, an amino acid, which they cannot make in their bodies and must be in their food - it is abundant in lean raw muscle meat, hearts and gizzards of prey. Without sufficient taurine the cat will develop serious heart disease and/or go blind.

Wild cats NEVER eat any vegetable matter. Mortality rate for lion cubs is extremely high when they do not get enough meat because the adult cats get it first. They cannot and will not eat vegetable matter to prevent starvation.

Are you seriously that retarded? Cats need meat to survive. Go tell a lion, tiger, cougar, jaguar, to start eating tree bark. Mmm, fiber! Do you want your cat to die? Seems that way! Actually, better yet, pose this question to your vet, and record his/her laughter for us. Someone really does need to call animal control on you; that is completely inhumane.

Cats cannot be vegans. They need meat to live. You can buy dry food for cats or food for cats in cans or both.
