Or is that just something Catholic school boys do to P off their parents?

I mean worshipping Jesus is one thing. But the Devil? That's ten times more stupid....

In ancient Jewish tradition Satan is simply an angel doing the work that God assigned to Satan to do.

The word Satan means challenger. With the idea of Satan challenging us, or tempting if you will. This description sees Satan as the angel who is the embodiment of man's challenges. This idea of Satan works closely with God as an integral part of Gods plan for us. His job is to make choosing good over evil enough of a challenge so that it becomes clear to us that there can be only one meaningful or logical choice.

Contrast this to Christianity, which sees Satan as God's opponent. In Jewish thought, the idea that there exists anything capable of setting itself up as God's opponent would be considered polytheistic or setting up the devil to be an equally powerful polarity to god or a demigod.

Oddly, proof for The Christian satan/devil mythology is supposedly found in the ancient Jewish texts that were borrowed to create the bible. One can’t help but wonder how Christians came up with such a fantastically different interpretation of Gods assistant Satan in their theology.

Other hints about Satan’s role in human relations can be seen if you look at the name Lucifer. It’s meaning in the original tongue translates as Light bearer or light bringer. Essentially the bringer of enlightenment. The temptations of the Satan idea bring all of us eventually into Gods light. Hardly the Evil entity of Christian mythology.

Most Satanists refer to themselves as such simply to indicate that they run counter to the Biblical morality and worldview of the dominant Judeo-Christian culture. Not only is this a cultural protest statement, but an affirmation that the biblical Jehovah represents a spiritual principle (if not an actual being) that ought to be opposed. That's at least the case with the Satanists that I have known, myself included.

All the best,

Most Satanist, like me, are atheists. Satan, god, jesus, the Tooth Fairy are all just symbols.

There are however those who do worship the Devil and they are just as silly as the Christians.

I don't worship him - but he does come over for poker night sometimes. Satan usually loses though, he doesn't know when to fold. Every once in a while, he tries to bring Saddam (who's a real pain in the ***, Saddam always cheats and cries when he loses). I told him not to bring Saddam to my apartment anymore. Or if he does, get him to take the noose off already.

No, outside perhaps of a few mentally ill people. "Satanists" essentially use Satan as a symbol in opposition to the overbearing aspects of Christian practice. However, some imaginative Christians like to think they do.

As far as I know, no one who isn't mentally ill actually worships Satan. Satanists certainly don't, and no, fundies, Pagans and Wiccans don't either.

I could never take that seriously so my answer is definitely no, but I am sure that there are those out there who do so.

The only thing that I can say is 'to each, their own' and also that I read up on some of the philosophy behind it and it kind of makes sense...sum up one of my favorite things that it dictates is 'to live for yourself and no one else'...kind of like you live once so do what makes you happy.

but yeah still not going to convert...lol...

if anyone does, its nothing mroe then to justify their lifestyle that lacks morality, and for attention.

to believe in satan means you believe in god. the only evidence of both of them are from the bible. thus you must believe the bible. saying that you would know god is more powerful, thus your being defiant. a form of immaturity found in that of an elementary school child. *shrug*

Well, to worship means; to magnify the worth of. Does that answer your question?

I'm sure someone out there does. For every idea there's a person who buys into it. (No offense intended to the Luciferians in the room).
