I have a male Malti Poo pup who is driving us crazy!! He won't stop humping everybody.. Mostly the kids or their friends that come by. I know,, I should go get him fixed , right? I'm sure thats what everyone is going to tell me. But other than that, is there any remedy to stop him? Everytime he starts doing it, when I call his name he stops right away, but as soon as I turn by back, hes right at it again. And its weird, he does it about everyother day. Somedays he won;'t do it at all. Why is that?? By the way, hes 10 months old. Its gross but kind of funny, he has this pillow type bear and thats what he does it on if its not the kids!! He doesn't touch anyother stuffed animal, just that bear!! I guess because its about the same size as him!! And please, no smart answers from anybody! Go bother someone else with the ignorant answers. Its actually not funny at all !! It drives us crazy.. I don't plan on breeding him. so should I just break down and have him fixed??

Well yeah you should have him fixed. That would help... but honestly the humping is a dominance thing(which fixing would help reduce his need to be dominant) The humping is rarely sexual. Dogs hump each other and us for the simple reason that they are trying to show who the pack leader is. Your dog thinks he is the boss of who ever he is humping. You should fix your dog, but you also need to correct this behavior when he does it. Here is a website about being a pack leader. Pick up some tips... and teach them to your kids too... because your dog needs to see EVERYONE living in your home as the above him in the pack.

There is NO other remedy than to get him fixed. Sorry but it's the truth. He's at his sexual peak now and will hump anything and everything. This will continue until he's about 2 years or so if left unneutered. And after that he will still hump, but will just slow down a bit and with slightly less frequency but it WILL continue.

If you don't plan on breeding him you should get him fixed asap. If he's 10 months, he's just hitting his sexual maturity and you will be in for quite a headache. Humping, roaming, possible aggressiveness and possesiveness. Also if you don't get him fixed and try to stop him in the middle of his humping, he may start to bite when you try and interfere with his "mating". Neutered dogs are generally a lot healthier as well.

Humping is partially a dominance issue and the fact that he is humping your kids just shows that he feels he is dominant over your children. He is letting them know in no uncertain terms that he is above them in the pecking or der of your home.
You are letting him.
If you want to change the behavior next time he humps something snach him up and give him a swat. Stop the behavior and correct him. Let him know that in no way are you going to tolerate this type of behavior from him.
Do not hurt him but you want to scare him some so he gets the idea this is a serious problem and you are not going to take it anymore.
Also get him neutered. Do it for his health.
He will not get an enlarged prostate or cancer if you neuter him. He will also not be as worried about being the dominant one in the house if he is not worried about breeding.

He is showing dominance! Getting him fixed is one of the only ways to stop this from happening. He is feeling his hormones. Better to get him fixed now because the longer you let it go on the worse his attitude may get because of frustration.

Hope this help

What is not funny is the utter disrespect he has for you. He stops when you catch him doing it, and then starts again as soon as your back is turned. Neutering is not his only problem. Dominance issues is what his biggest problem is. So that I will not have to repeat my self for the 100th time, go to leerburg.com and listen to Ed on his pd cast talking about dealing with dogs like yours. Decide if this is what you want to do and make sure you have the temperament for it. If not, your problem will only get worse with time. Good luck.

Yes, fixing him would be the best answer..otherwise don't let him have contact with people...therefore he can't hump them. Is that the kind of answer you want?!?!! Go get him fixed.

Well, he comes by it honestly... Maltese are great "dominators"... I know because I have had my share of the little angels

This is not about sex. This is about being Alpha and letting everyone he humps know he is over them in the pack.

Suggest to your guests to please NOT cross their legs and wiggle their foot... (nodding with smiles yet?) that is but an invitation for your little guy to "show them".... hahhahahaa He will outgrow that as he becomes more secure in his position of "pack" in the home.

Been There Done That.. lol ... And nope you will not need to get him fixed just for that.

GOOD LUCK

He needs to be fixed. Otherwise, he may start marking the furniature in the house too.

He's a horny adolescent.

It's best to just get him fixed. Easier on you, easier on him.
