Everyone has different threshholds for pain, but I would describe it as mild discomfort. Other than when you are poked with the needle (which isnt too bad), your arm will feel slightly numb. The benefits FAR outway the mild discomfort since you can literally save several people with one donation.

THis is a great decision, and potentially a great way to overcome your fear of needles. If you don't like to look, don't look!! No one's forcing you! It only pinches for a minute, and then you get to just hang out, usually on a comfy bed, couch or cot, you get a cool colorful bandage and/or a sticker to tell the world what a great person you are, and when it's all said and done, you get to hang out a little longer with very nice people, who are happy to be there, and happy that you're there, too. Then you get juice and cookies!! What's not to love?

Depending on the program, you may get other cool stuff..I got a certificate for a free pint of ice cream from Baskin Robbins, a little jogging radio with headphones, a coupon for a free dinner at a participating restaurant...

It really is a great thing to do. Your blood can save a life!! So a little pinch in the face of the great feeling that you're doing something really good is a really small price to pay!

Well done for making this decision, personally i think that everyone should be made give blood but heh that's my opinion.

Giving blood does not really hurt and there is always someone there to reassure you. The most painful part is the finger puncture iron test that they do beforehand, but it only hurts for a second.

Please don't worry about seeing any needles as they cover all needles and tell you to look away when they are about to put in the needle.

Just remember you are doing one of the most lifesaving things that any of us can do as a human being without risking our own lifes.

Chin up and be proud of your decision.

Yes, you've made the right decision!! You will be required to answer a bunch of questions (trying to find out if you're at a higher risk to be HIV positive) and they might have you eat/drink something before donating. Most of the time they have you eat/drink after they've drawn the blood - this is to keep you around and make sure you don't pass out. Not to scare you, but some people get wheezy/dizzy after giving blood. That's why they make you eat/drink something and rest for 20 - 30 mins before you can leave. The only pain involved is the initial poke of the needle and sometimes when they remove it (if they aren't gentle enough). There isn't any pain during the actual blood draw itself. You'll be fine. Keep focused on something else going on around you while they insert/remove the needle and you should be fine!! Be sure to drink a glass of water that morning and drink plenty of fluids in the afternoon after your draw. Being hydrated makes it easier for them to find a good vein!! :-) You're doing a good thing!!! Be proud!!!

Your decision is wonderful and a great gesture.

Donating blood does not hurt at all, you may feel a tiny prick of the needle, but apart from that it is pain-free. If you cannot see blood, just make sure you look away - it may be a little inconvenient if you faint, but the staff should also be prepared if that happens. Don't worry, you will be fine - and you may have played your part in saving a life!

WELL DONE !! Firstly NO it doesnt hurt whatsoever a tiny prick of the skin which is nothing i assure you. I have given 30 pints of blood and i always found lying on the bed while giving the blood very relaxing actually. I started to give blood as soon as i was able to as i wanted to give something back in life to others so what better way than to give blood you will feel great after going knowing what you have achieved. Lots of people i have met give blood too as they have a fear of needles and they managed fine honestly. Just make sure you have something to eat before you go okay dont give on an empty stomach .Good luck i assure you theres nothing too it if it was painfull i would never have given 30pints myself lol. Relax and enjoy it knowing your helping cancer sufferers burns victims and many many others .

it truly is what occurs: they call you into this little revenues area and ask you questions about your well being, sex life, and in case you've carried out any style of drugs at present (even rx or otc drugs). Then they take somewhat needle and prick your finger for a blood-iron try - this stings extremely, yet only for a second! in case you bypass the questionaire and the blood-iron try then they take you over to get your blood drawn. even as the needle is first stuck in it DOES damage, yet this shouldn't very last more effective than some seconds - then if basically feels uncomfortable yet no longer painful (if it nonetheless hurts, let them comprehend! they are going to flow the needle or supply up thoroughly). Ten to 20 minutes later, you're carried out! :) hassle-free. don't be scared. you are able to lower back out at any time you experience like! They understand once you're scared or replaced your options. It occurs alllll the time, lol.

Yes chick, it's a great thing you're doing!

I give blood, the first time I gave i asked for anaesthetic, they inject the area with a tiny needle, and then whenn they use the needle to get blood you dont even feel it!

Make sure you drink lots, as i feel ill when i havent drank much during the day.

Good luck and hope you do it!

I was absolutely terrified of giving blood, I mean REALLY scared. The scariest part of giving blood is the build up to it, not knowing what is going to happen. Once you are there, and you start talking to people, you feel happier and more reassured. The actual needle itself is barely noticeable, you will not think anything of it. I give you my word you will be fine, if it hurts in the slightest I'l give you my address and you can kick my *** . . . that's how sure I am you'l be fine. Your doing something brilliant and you won't regret it.
(p.s. the biscuits are nice, go for the oat ones)

Don't worry about it!

You have made a good decision.

The nurses are very nice. They will tell you to look away and they can help you through it.

Make sure that you eat lots of protein and drink lots of liquid before you give blood, otherwise you might get dizzy. I usually take Apple or Orange juice with me and drink it in line.
