Ok, a friend told this to me, any one who knows the answer please state:

3 ladies walk into a shop to buy a TV that costs £30. They pay and leave the shop. The shop keeper realises that it was reduced by £5 so he gave his assistant £5 in coins and told him to give the women the change. The assistant couldn't be bothered to work out 5 divided by 3 so he kept £2 and gave £3 back to each lady (£1 each)
All in all that means they all gave £9 each right. Okay, do the maths and:
9 x 3 =27,
27 + 2 (the £2 that the assistant kept)
= £29,
where the other pound coin gone?????

ARGH!

The TV actually cost 25 pounds. They'd overpaid by 5 pounds.
The 3 ladies received 3 times 1 pounds=3 pounds. The assistant kept 2 pounds for himself.
25+3+2=30

Doesn't work that way!

The three women gave 30 quid, 5 too much, assistant gave back three and kept 2. Therefore the women paid 27 for it, 2 pounds too much which the assistant keeps.

Its 3 times 9 = 27, Minus the two that the assistant keeps = 25

It's an interesting play on words you've got there but not mathematically logical.

Sorry to be boring.

30 -5 = 25 + 2 = 27 devided by 3 = 9

thats easy you are asked to add the numbers up at the rong time to confuse! here you go
30 - 5 = 25

5 - 2 = 3

£1 each back!

£2 for the Assistant

there is not 1 left over coin tv was 30 and seller 4got it was 5 off so then the 3 ladies got 1 coin each, and assistant got 2

30-5=25
1*3=3 (Ladies)
2*1=2 (assistant)
-----------
30

i am not sure where you are getting the 9x3 but if you take the price of the tv which is 25 (the owner kept it) 3 (gave back to the ladies) 2 (the assistant kept) that totals up to 30

the only reason it looks like 1 is missing is because of how you are doing the math.....it is actually all there

take 25 divide by 3 = 8.333333333
($$) ~ (ladies)=each pay 8.33333333...
take the 3$ that was returned-
add 1 (each ladie) to how much they paid each

8.3 + 1 = 9.3

9.33333333333333 x 3 = 27.999999999

27.99999999 + 2(money that dude kept)=

29.999999999999999

because you need to deduct what the assistant kept, they paid 30 and got three back but the shopkeeper kept two of the refund so its 27 - 2 = 25 which is what it should of cost. This is not a riddle its just a load of crap.

Or possibly you are blonde and were given it as a riddle.

They paid £25,which is £8-33each,not £8. The odds,£0-33 for 3 ladies adds up to your extra !!!!! one pound.

oh no, that is going to frustrate me now.

how on earth does that work out????

really good question though.

i hope someone can tell you a good reason why or else i'm gonna keep on thinking about that hehe

x

oh, oh, oh, i get it now. you have to take away the £2 that the assisant kept, not add it.
if you deduct it then that will equal £25, which is what the tv cost.

thanks for that anyway though, puzzled me for quite a while hehe
