Hi Katherine...in all honesty, this sounds serious enough which would merit a visit to the vet rather to be medically treated. It may be ear mites or something more serious. Rather than trust the advice of strangers which could cause more harm than help it would be best to only entrust a licenced veterinarian.

Ear mites are unlikely in an adult cat unless there is something depressing her immune system. An infection is entirely possible, as are feline allergies. Yup, like human allergies, but with a slightly different presentation. My rec. would be to take her to a vet, have the ear canals examined and swabbed for microscope slides, and possibly do some bloodwork on the poor girl. Do not try Q-tips at home. I have a very good reason for this, and it is best described as "SNAP". What the heck do you do if the darn thing breaks off in kitty's ear? Pay an after-hours emergency fee, and waste a ton of your hard-earned cash. Don't do it. Not worth it.
Best of luck to you and your kitty.

Could be Otitis. That is when the inners of the ears get swollen, and burn, itch, and hurt. It can be caused by allergies. I have it too, and I know for sure cats get it like us too, because I used to work for an animal health pharmaceuitical company. The vet can give you the med for it.

Sounds like your cat needs a trip to the vet for her ear to be examined and receive proper treatment. Good Luck.

You would be able to see signs of ear mites, they would leave a black 'manure' build up. It could be an ear infection, yeast infection, other parasite or even an abcess tooth. Call your vet.

Take her to the vet. Call up the vet and see if you can give her aspirin, for pain, until you see him. Also try a blow dryer on a low setting to sooth her ear.

Take her to the vet, it could be her telling you that she has a sour ear, maybe an inner ear infection.
