ok to make a long story short we got my cat ladybug form the humane society in mid sept........

apparently THEY tested for all those things in august when she first got there and tested negative for all of them

she is STRICTLY an inside cat since we first got her

we feed her only her purina cat food and maybe once a month she gets canned food. she doesn't interact with any other animals.

she does not go into the trash and eat trash

although my husband has caught her one time sniffing around the toilet and he thinks she might have drank out of the toilet...but if she did drink that one time she wouldn't get worms from that one time....right?????

i am really worried about her i know she doesn't have heart worms cause we used to have a cat who had the same thing with the same symptoms and she got cleaned with two dr visits and a shot

but what would've caused her to get worms???
like does it take a long time for the worms to actually develop??
and that is why she tested negative

Well, the humane society probably only tested her once. You don't get worms from the toilet unless an animal who has worms is using it. Most worms have a prepatent period where they are not contagious. If the HS tested her during this time, she would have shown negative testing. It's not a big deal if its tapes, hooks or round. You just take her to the vet and get her put on meds. Follow up testing is important. She might have picked up the eggs from the HS, the ground...other cats. There is even a round worm that dogs and cats get. Usually it's species specific. Take your cat to the vet. And don't stress it. If it is heartworms, then you have a bigger problem, but don't freak out until you know for sure.

As for your cat having and getting worms, it could be 1 or more of many things. Ladybug may not get into the trash while u r around, but maybe she does while u r out/asleep, IF u give her 'people food' this is a good cause for worms. Have u given her worm medicine on a reg. basis? if not, u need to!! U maybe able to find out more info by calling the vet, or going to the purina cat chow website. hope this helps!

First of all, no need to swear. There are lots of reasons your cat can have worms when she checked negative at the facility. Your cat can get worms from flees. Have you checked for those? If you don't have any, one of you may have brought one in on your shoes or clothing. All it would take would her be eating one (like when she was cleaning her fur). Take a stool sample to your vet to confirm the type of worm. It's not expensive to get rid of them, though, but you DO need to get rid of them.

As mentioned, fleas can transmit certain types of worms. Bring her back to the vet and ask where the worms could be coming from and remove that possible source from the household. Without knowing what type of worms the cat has, it's hard to guess at where she is getting them. Good luck to you. : )

if you are talking about your standard, run-of-the-mill intestinal worms, it is super easy for cats to get them. they do not take long to "incubate". essentially, there is a fly. a fly lands on food that your cat will ingest and lays eggs. the cat eats the food and whammo, worms.

intestinal worms are disgusting, but relatively harmless. you can get a dewormer from any pet supply store. the litterbox won't be fun for a day or two, but it does work.

Worms eggs can live in dirt, grass or carpet for years.. That could be the why of it.

More Than Likely...... she ate a mouse.. while we sleep the cats are mousing around. So if you have no signs of mice then she is a good mouser??? ... LOL.. jokes aside.. bet she is.

Give kitty some milk lately? another mistake us humans make.

Hope This Helps A Little
GOOD LUCK
