Why is it that when I see an issue around town that involves police having to go investigate something, that there are always 3 cruisers? No more, and no less. is this an issue of training? and why 3, and not 4?

Well I would trust there are many reasons across the country that would make sense. One example why you will find the police in groups because it is a small town like where I live and they have nothing better to do. :) I know because my kid is a cop there. ha/ha. But on a serious note most of the time it is because of the low police/crimianls ratio in towns where they need more officers they are most of the time doing backup for the first officer on the scene or depending on the investigation each officer might be proficient in a different area.

It's for officer protection at times, not to mention the nature of the traffic stop or nature of issue at a private home, i dont know where you live but if it is a high crime area, any officer would bring backup, alot of officers are alone while on calls now due to city budget or lack of manpower

That may be your police department's rule, one investigative officer, a backup and a supervisor. At least that's the way it is in my city. If it involves violence, the number of police escalate.
