I am 17 years old and im pregnant, my babygirl will be here in a couple months, and everyone has been talking about her custody. People have told me because i am not 18 i will not recieve custody of my child and that Dfacs will probably look into my case. I am not married, so i don't know how its going to work out.

They cannot legally remove your child from your custody, unless you are unfit. Just because you are 17 does not make you unfit in the eyes of the law.
Relax, and good luck!

You will retain custody of your child after it is born unless you are having problems with drugs or alcohol, then Child Protective Services may get involved. It is likely that your local Department of Human Services will want to send a social worker or public health nurse to your home once a week to weigh & measure the baby and to provide you with support and educational materials. I would suggest you take them up on that opportunity so you can learn to be the best parent you can be.

Who ever is telling you that are in serious need of an education.
My aunt works for child services and I can tell you that is 100% false. No matter how young you are custody goes right to the birth mother of the child unless she is proven to be unfit like you do drugs or you are an alcoholic or may try to harm the baby.
I was 17 when I had my baby and custody went right to me, by law custody goes straight to the parents of the baby unless proven unfit to raise the child.

In Florida, we have a program called Healthy Start. Basically it is the government checking up on you to make sure that you are a fit parent. Lets face it you are 17. By no means does that mean that you are incompetent. But it could. It gives them a reason to be concerned and just check in to make sure you have everything that you need. That includes helping you financially and giving you any paperwork that you need to get assistance. The only way your baby will be taken away is if you are an unfit parent. Which could mean many things.
If you are able to provide your child with clothing, a home and food. You have nothing to worry about.
Best of Luck.

I dont understand why your baby would be taken away. Many "kids" have kids. Unless you are unable to care for the child or something then maybe. Thats your baby, only the father can fight you for custody and possibly win. Do a google, on custody issues for your state. Good luck.

Being 17 won't mean you can't get custody of your baby. Unless someone can prove are unfit as a parent, meaning you are abusive or neglectful or on drugs, then you'll be fine. People trying to tell you otherwise are probably trying to scare you into doing what they want.

I was 16 when I had my first child. CPS/DCFS never looked into my case at all. Your child will automatically be in your custody, and she will stay that way unless you don something to mess it up. Like other have said, being young does not make you an unfit parent.

Depending on your state there is a possibility that you could lose custody - however, if you are living with family perhaps joint custody would work until you are of age.

17 is too young to care for the child yourself. love will not be enough. do the child and yourself a favor and put her up for adoption unless you want her to learn from your example and make you a grannie at 35.

no they won't. once you have a baby you're legally emancipated and considered an adult in the eyes of law. you will have full custody your daughter. i know because two of my sisters were underage when they gave birth. if you have any more questions email me @ sapphiregurl424@yahoo.com. congrats and good luck!
