That's all you really need to say. But if you say more, please be sure it is spelled correctly. Nothing looks worse than a badly mispelled note. A nice blank Thank You card from Hallmark, then the note handwritten inside would be very nice and well received by the host family.

first of all i would be honored to get any kind of thank you for inviting someone over for dinner. i never have. it would be nice. your thank you sounds really good. i might would mention inviting them over some time for dinner.
