When you run in this way, you are working too hard to lose fat. Any sugar you burn will make you hungry, so it won't help. Making yourself sweat a lot will also interfere with all of your body systems, including the release of bodyfat from storage. You are triggering an emergency response, which is dangerous if you do it too often.

(Slow-twitch muscle fibres are used for gentle movements, that do not require hard effort. These fibres can work all day, AND THEY ONLY BURN FAT. Fast-twitch fibres are 'recruited' when high power is needed to overcome resistance (a weight) or provide acceleration (a punch). These fibres burn sugar, & tire easily.)

If the feeling of getting very hot and sweaty is what motivates you, perhaps you should try boxing training, with a punchbag. In between the heavy, muscular work that makes you sweat, it is usual to do a lot of 'resting work'. traditionally this is fast, light skipping, and this constant LOW-INTENSITY activity is what reduces your bodyfat.

You mileage isn't major. Running in bin bags and fleeces is ridiculous. What are you trying to do lose weight, or keel over from dehydration and overheating???

You haven't mentioned for how long you've been running 2-4 miles every day for...

It'll take a while before you'll notice a difference.

Give it a month and you'll see a difference but for God's sake get yourself some moisture wicking running gear!!!

Because all you're doing is increasing your body temperature - which is NOT healthy. (People have died from being too hot.) The key to losing weight is to burn off more calories than you take in. If you're eating 3000 calories a day, you can run every day, but you're not going to burn off all the calories, and you won't lose weight. Try keeping track of everything you eat and drink for a week - www.fitday.com - can give you calorie counts for almost everything one can eat or drink - and then decrease that amount by 10%. You'll start seeing results.

whats all this running in fleeces and bin bags nonsense! Sweating doesnt burn calories. All you are achieving is a heart under stress and stopping your skin from metabolising.. Eat 2000 calories a day, low fat, equal measures of protiens and carbs and fill up on fruits and veg.

Weigh yourself naked before running. Get dressed, go run and then come back home. Take your drenched clothes off and weigh yourself again. If your clothes are drenched and you don't weigh any less after running, your sweat must have left your body and is being held in your clothes. I ran 5 miles on a treadmill this morning wearing a t-shirt and shorts. I weighed 189.8 before running and 187.8 after running.
