How do you get the communities to become more involved with saving the horses from the slaughterhouses? How can I get people to donate monies to buy these horses from the killer buyers and the auctions?

Many places I know go to the IRS Web-Site and read about Charitable Organizations and do the proper paper work. Then Donations are Tax Deductible for your cause.
We just do it the old fashioned way. We pay out of our own pocket. I have been a Foster Parent to various Animals for the Shelters. But, at this time not have the proper facilities as I had out in the Country.
You go to Auction and out bid for these Horses, usually you be surprised it be cheap. A high quality horse will sell higher and you will know it go to a good home for a Riding Horse or Pet. Just remember you can not save them all, but, you did the best you could with what you have. Also, talk around and let people know what you try to do, I have had Farmers bring me a Round Bale of hay, just to help.
Many people like to talk Animals Rights, but, they sure not willing to really do much. I admire your concern to really be involved and wish you the best.

Try Equine Advocates or WSPA. You can continue to raise awareness of the issue and contribute to those who are on the same mission. I found Equine Advocates when I was researching the abuse of horses to make the drug Premarin. I cried for days about it. I chose to pray and send light to the situation hoping that legislation will soon be passed to stop it. I wrote to my local radio talk show and I even emailed Oprah.

I wish I could donate money because that is a horrible thing that those people do and it makes me cry.
