I remember the 1st time I heard my voice played back to me after recording it. I was shocked. When you speak, or sing you hear your vocal chords resonating from inside your body, & it sounds way different to you than it does for others. When you hear your voice played back you are hearing it the way others hear it.
Don't be discouraged by that. You are only 14, & still have a lot of growing to do. You can use your young age to your advantage. If you start serious vocal training now, then you will develop a better range in your voice. As you get older your voice will deepen, & you will find it harder to hit the same high notes you could when you were younger. However with training, & regular proctice you stand a better chance of retaining the higher range you have now at 14.
Plus you may be singing through your throat instead of from your diaphram. That would account for the thinner tones you are hearing when you listen to your recording. A good vocal coach can show you the difference, & have you producing better more rounded tones with your voice.

As an amateur vocalist you need to recognize that you are a musician too. Your voice is your instrument, & you need to practice at your music as much as any other musician.
Join a choir, or a local amateur theatre group. If you believe you have what it takes then either join, or form your own band, & practice, practice practice.
You already said that you don't plan to go pro, but if you want to be able to entertain people just once in a while, you still have to be prepared with your material etched solidly in your head in order to have enough confidence to get in front of people & sing.
So preparation, & practice. The only way.

First, remember that your friends and loved ones are just that - they love you and don't want to hurt your feelings. Find a professional teacher and ask them for a professional critique of your ability. If they say you have ability, then consider lessons.

Learning to use your voice is what lessons are all about. Take the time to consider finding someone who will teach you at y our level. The things you will learn are how to change the timbre of your voice, vocal range and stamina as well as how to read music and improvise. Vocal lessons will help get rid of that "baby-ish quality" you may hear. (Also, remember that NO ONE likes the way they sound on tape.)

Once you get into voice lessons, be sure to sing as often and as much as your voice can handle it. Learn how to take care of your voice, too - especially during the cold months.

Lastly, start learning about options. Let's face it. The odds of you becoming the next Brittney Spears are pretty remote, but you CAN do something in that realm if you put your mind to it. Find all the optiosn of what you CAN do in the future and be open to them all. Find out what it takes to get into the right place and what the costs, both professionally, personally and financially are before you go down that road.

Remember that there are more failed singers out there than there are successful. The successful ones are those who never gave up and who listened to their teachers and critics alike.

Theres so much hope out there for future performance. The key as with all talent and creative opportunities is practice. Much practice. A very cool website I've been using to nurture my singing talents (which come and go :)) is SingShot.com. You can get feedback on your recordings and compete in contests. Maybe this way you'll be able to figure out exactly how to make your voice sound good.

Sing of well matters no longer dangerous, sing of pleased no longer unhappy. Sing, Sing a track, sing it functional to final the complete night time lengthy. Don't fear if its no longer well ample for anybody else to listen to, simply sing, sing a track.

okay, i hear that drinking raw egg helps your voice thincken out (yeah i know it's gross) so if your babyish voice is the problem then you might want to try that. but be careful how you do it before you start sounding like barry white
