That's a good idea, but it will be best to follow up with something to initiate a response... something like a phone call to ask if he read your message.
I don't think it's cheesy. Sounds like you're a bit shy. Also, I would be very flattered that you did such a classy thing personally, but that's just me. I like smart women, and writing a letter, even in an e-mail, tells me someone is smart. I mean, it's a romantic lost art, in a way.

Of course you can do that, but I wouldn't recommend it. It is not personal, what you write in an e-mail might be taken in a different way than how you meant it, and it will also make a bad impression on him, because you were too scared to just say it to his face, which might ruin things with him. If you are too scared to tell him in person then atleast tell him over the phone.

I've done it -- sometimes it is easier to write something and take the time to figure out what you want to say. Although it is always nice to have the courage to face someone face-to-face, sometimes you can be more courageous when you can "hide" behind the written word! Go for it!

I would tell him in personal. That way he knows that you are serious in what you are saying. And also you can see his face expressions, etc. Sending that kind of email is just to impersonal.

I agree with Stelly. If you do it over email, he will have time to think, think, talk to his friends about it, think some more, and decide how to respond. Talk to him face to face, and you will be able to note his initial reaction. Even if he is bad with words (which some people are), you may be able to read his reaction.

Sure, why not I do that all the time. To me writing my feelings down is sure a whole lot easier.

Only on frivolous matters.
Otherwise, No.
I'd consider it rude and cowardly.
Better to buck-up and do serious communication face to face.

Ask him in person. If you send an e-mail he'll have too much time to think.
