I think there will be small pockets of religious sects in a thousand years but by enlarge religion will slowly become less relevant in people's lives, here is the reason I came to that conclusion if you look at the last thousand years as countries around the world become more educated 2 things happen the women start to have less children and religious worship starts to diminish.

If you observe the world right now religious ferver and high birth rates are in the nations where the population in general are less uneducated.

Not to sound like too much of a futurist, but by that time, 3007, we probably would have made contact with some other advanced civilization & the whole religion thing will be blown to bits once and for all.

When we start telling them about our ancient mythologies, they'll laugh their brains out!

Likely the names will change but the battles will be familiar. The Tri-reverent de-tribbed post-millenialists will insist that the Second Coming occured in 2678, in open conflict with the Jucrimusian Coalitian which claim Yeh-Ju-Isa has never left and is only in hiding. The Cult of the Ideal Machine, mandatorially ascribed to by all artificial life forms, will be persecuted by the robot-hating Second Reformed Church of Ludd. The New Hindus will be reviled for syncretizing their theology with that of the off-world Altarian faith by Christian Scientologists. And everyone will attack the Bahais for promoting their silly calendar (and universal peace).

Remember John Lennon's song, "Imagine?"In the lyrics he says,"Imagine a world with no religion too." He will happily be resurrected to find a world unified in serving the one true God, Jehovah. All the world's religions will be done away with. The followers will be worshiping in a world full of peace, happiness, and love. This world will be a paradise where no one will ever again grow old, sick, or die. All true worshipers will live forever! So, the state of religion as you know it today in 2007 will by no means be the same 100, 1000, or 1,000,0000 years from now. You will finally have a world of believers who will worship in a unified manner. They will only look to the true God, Jehovah for direction. And, as the Bible states, "Your every desire will be fulfilled!"

I think the religions will still exist more or less the way the are now. Depending on the ignorance level of the believers the religions will be practiced in a better or worse way.

Personally, seeing how things are going with global warming (I'm in Canada, and can tell everybody that it is definately getting warmer!), I would expect another period of religion and ignorance in 1000 years similar to the medieval period due to the economic collapse that is bound to happen with, among other things, every port city in the world being flooded, drought and crop failure, etc. That is if anyone manages to survive the broiling heat.
