I put a cheap dollar-store type on them, to wear around the house when they can be supervised.(so not to get tangled) they soon grow bored with it. Then it is safe to put the nice ones on them.
However, I begin training with a harness, rather than a collar, so they are in less danger..
Please forget all of the violent advice you have just read!!

I've also tried the bitter apple, which can work. Sometimes when my puppy is chewing the leash before I take her on a walk, I just drop the leash and walk away. I make it clear that's not a game I want to play, so the fun stops for her.

There are bigger ways than yanking to coach your dog to not bite. Try blending up a few do-it-yourself sour apple spray, a a million:a million combination of apple cider vinegar and rubbing alcohol plus a million tsp of alum. Put it in a sprig bottle and spray it at the leash. I wish your dog kindegarden is not having you employ choke chains. Jerking a choke collar is the typical system of correcting a puppy on a lead; however it isn't anything that you simply do with a dog. For biting, allow the dog chew to your hand; then do not allow him take his mouth off. You do not need to drive your hand into his mouth, however hold a constant strain till your dog relatively relatively needs to get your hand out of his mouth. (This works pleasant with very small dogs with needle sharp tooth--and sure, it does harm you. The upside is that you simply handiest ought to do it a few times and the dog will NEVER attempt to chew once more. It removes your having to manage the common "tugging" reaction while you attempt to jerk your hand away and doggy needs to hold on.) Talk to different obedience running shoes approximately more than a few methods to set up your self as "alpha" on your puppy's brain. Some of them sound beautiful unusual, and it's bigger to get a reside demonstration that to learn approximately it somewhere. The alpha chief does now not use worry, punishment or brute drive--however does make it transparent what behaviours are applicable and what don't seem to be. Techniques just like the alpha roll, dominant eye touch, time outs (take a seat/down/keep), tapping chin or grabbing ears...all of those are quiet, delicate, dominant events that aid your puppy understand his location on your %. The sort of breed and the age of your doggy would possibly have an effect on the leash chewing conduct. For illustration, a few retrievers will also be distracted from the leash chewing conduct by way of allowing them to convey round a favourite toy. You would not wish to try this for the period of a category if the toy distracts your puppy from the educational main issue; however whilst, the sort of dependancy turns into a gift. If your puppy has a toy he will convey round, you'll be able to use it as incentive to study, together with compliment and typically as an alternative of "bait."

Rub some dish detergent into the leash. They hate the taste! You can also try the bitter apple spray sold in pet stores but the dish soap seems to work best!

When the puppy takes the leash in his mouth, give it a good pop INTO his mouth. Do not try to pull it out or the puppy will instinctively pull back. If you pop it back into the dog, the dog will not like the feel and should drop it. After he drops it, tell him good boy and give him a treat.
