If humans celebrated humanity and believed in the human spirit, inteligence and in ourselves instead of religion, would the world be a better place? I believe so (I am an atheist although that has nothing to do with the question).

Wow, its ammazing how many people were enthusiastic that the world would be better off without religion. If only there was a way for more people to realize and enact this change!

Yes.

See theists responses about how evil the world will become in the event religion was abandoned. I think it is more of a window into their beings. They are naturaly selfish and immoral individuals. Without god in their lives they would become the selfish and cruel beings they claim all of humanity is.

I believe it would be.

Belief in a God, by whatever name you may call Her(Him) is not a bad thing. I believe there is a big difference between Religion and Faith. Having faith is a great thing.

Religion on the other hand has caused so many wars it is unbelievable. The Crusades are the most notable right behind them is the current Jihad. Religion puts a man or woman in power and then they order others to do "Gods Will" when it is their own.

That has everything to do with the question! The world would be a horrible place if we had no higher power to answer to. Without religion there would be no reason for anything but evil. Without the hope of the afterlife why would we be good? I am a christian but that has nothing to do with my answer.

I believe that if all people were spiritual instead of religious, then yes, the world would be a better place. We must get rid of the dogma's of religion in order to all connect with eachother and find peace among the people and cultures of the world.

It's been tried in many places around the world in the 20th century with devasting consequences. So, based on history, the answer would have to be a resounding, "NO".

No, because think about it. You want to take away my freedom to celebrate my religion because you're an athiest. And yes, you being an atheist has everything to do with this question. You wouldn't feel this way if you believed in a religion. But because you don't, you want to remove my freedoms.

Atheists believe there is no higher power. People who believe that the answers lie within ourselves follow the path of Buddhism. The answer lies with Creation.

I think so ,I don't think religion and believing in God are the same at all.I believe there is a spirit that we call God but I don't believe in following a religious doctrin. The laws and commandments of God are clear and the rules and idiology of man hold no interest to me.What I feel and follow are a part of my very soul and my soul or nature demands that I be among them but learn to not be as them.

I am a Christian; but I do agree with you in a sense. I believe in having a relationship with God...But I don't believe or even call myself religious.

Religion is one of the biggest causes of war. God doesn't make people hate people because of him; people get caught up in making organized religions and get mad when others don't believe what they do.

I follow God; not what man tells me to follow.

No. the world would become chaos and all would suffer. It might start out okay, but then people are gonna ask why be nice. Human nature is to please yourself and not others. Where do you think this human spirit and intelligence came from? People don't pop out of the womb saying, "Let me go mom i gotta go build houses for the homeless and make food for starcing africans."
