Despite what many people think, dog crates are a humane way of helping your dog with separation anxiety. By giving him his own space, his own "den", you're doing him a favor. Start by feeding him in there without closing the door. Then as he gets used to it, start leaving him in the crate with the door closed while you walk around the house. I'm with the other poster, I doubt a week is enough time, but getting him started on this is a good idea. Successful training shows - my German Shepherd loves to be in her crate - she sleeps in their at night of her own free will, and usually we can find her taking naps in there while we watch TV.

It's going to take a lot longer than a week but try spending a little less time with the dog in the next few days. It may be hard on him in the first few weeks but he'll get used to it. Dogs a re very adaptable that way. Just in case the dog acts out while you are away, confine him to a smaller area, don't give him the run of the house. Leave a radio on and keep the room dim, not dark, water and some toys. It is a small dog so get a stuffed animal the same size or bigger for company... Good luck!

Get a crate and put some of his favourite toys in it and maybe a piece of your clothing that you do not wear any more be sure to wear it before you put it in the crate .Every day put him in the crate make it fun leave him alone for a few minutes increase the (alone time slowly in time he will understand that it's crate time and remember when you come home give him a treat Good luck

You should also try ignoring him for periods of time, such as 30 minutes a day. This means no eye contact, no petting, no treat, nothing. That way, when you leave, it's no different.

try to leave him for 10 minutes, then go back to him. the next day, leave him for 30 minutes, go back to him. next day, leave him for 1 hrs, so on. increase it and make sure that he knows that you'll get back to him if u leave him. if he cries, let it be. they cries sumtimes, no big deal:)
