Children International, Plan International, CCF, Compassion are all reputiable. It basically comes to down to what you can afford. Sponsorships range from$22- $40 depending on the organizations and what country they service.
I have sponsored children for several years both aboard and in the U.S.
And I have a word of advice: be very cautious sponsoring children here in the U.S. One of my American sponsored child/family was very ungrateful. Never said thank you. The child always wanted all these expensive things. They only called when they wanted something. My sponsored child ended up dropping out of school . Anyway, it was all kind of drama. I WILL NEVER sponsor another American child again. It the process was expensive and heartbreaking.
Give where you feel your heart leads you. Love and charity knows no bounds. If you truly want to help a child in China, Africa or South/Central America, don't let their nationality stop you.
Hope this helps...

A agree with Ana on this one. The Christian's Children Fund has a very reputable track record. I've never tried it, but I have a friend that has and still does to this day.
If you want my honest opinion, try finding a child in this country to support honey. There are sooooo many that go without and get overlooked. In this day and age, we have all these celebrities helping out the third world, while there are kids in our own backyard that don't have a place to rest their head at night. Whatever you choose to do is a very honorable thing, but wouldn't it give you greater satisfaction to actually be in contact and see first hand where your contribution is going. Contact your local social services organization, ask for a child/family to sponsor in need and they will get you started. This also comes without expectation, no obligation and you can give what you can, time is even appreciated. Often times, it's the little things we take for granted, that are often needed the most. Your heart is in the right place honey and I wish there were more people like you out there.

I sponsor a child through World Vision. It's been good, I've sponsered for four years now. 80 some percent goes toward the child, the rest is used for administration fees and other things. Some organizations only use 40 to 60 percent towards the child. I would stay away from anything like UNICEF, or any UN organization. I think you're safe with World Vision, or any other Christian organization.

Save the Children does a great job. I have sponsored a couple of kids and I get plenty of letters, pictures and photos of "my kids" from STK. They also forward my letters and gifts to "my kids" very quickly. You can sign up and make payments online too.
Other organizations would include Salvation Army, Christian Childrens Fund etc. Good luck.

Try CCF (Christian Childrens Fund) which although it has the word Christian in it helps children of all religions and is probably the most popular sponsor-organization in the world.

My church and then my family did it through Compassion International. It was a good experience; we would get letters and photos from the kid regularly.
