I was honorably discharged from the USMC back in 1997. I have my DD214 but not a certificate of honorable discharge. I would like to have this to show to family and friends but I don't know where to go to help in this matter.

Your DD214 will show that it was an Honorable Discharge.

As a VA employee, your DD 214 is your discharge. If you are not satisfied with that, there are several options open to you:
1. Go to a local VA representative and ask for assistance
2. Go to a local service club, such as American Legion, VFW etc and ask the service officer to assist you
3. Go to the VA website, there is a web site where you can request your DD 214 from St. Louis on the web.
Really though, your DD214 shows the Honorable Discharge.
Here is another clue. If you are registered to vote, you were Honorably discharged. Dishonorably discharged vets are not allowed to vote....(show them your voters registration card)

Your DD214 should show your type of discharge on it whether it was honorable or not. If not you can request that information at this site:

Duh your DD214 shows it but, unlike thes othrer people I know why you want better. The last place you were stationed should have a copy of it, get in touch with them, a recruiter will help you with that. good luck.
