I am planning on studying abroad in Australia next fall for a semester. I have all the information, working on visa, etc. but I can't make a decision on where I should stay. I am most drawn to Queensland (Brisbane, Gold Coast, etc.) but there aren't many unis there. Can anyone help me with this, where would be the best place (experience, etc.) to stay and go while in Australia?

I think you need to study in Geelong. It's an hour out of Melbourne in Victoria, and is beautiful. Don't be deterred by people who may tell you that it is boring, after you have been here a while your brain dies, and you no longer need entertainment, or a university for that matter. So studying in Geelong would end up saving you a hole heap of money on school fees!

If you're going to the Gold Coast and like to party every so often i recommend Griffiths University which is in Surfers Paradise. Sydney has numerous schools to choose from, and the city itself is great. Melbourne was my favorite city while i travelled around Australia. I assume by "fall" you mean September/October? If so, then Melbourne would be a great place.

I think Wollongong sounds the best for you, even though the nightlife won't be quite as good as Adelaide or Perth, because it has fantastic beaches, mountains, bushland etc in abundance and is central to visit all sorts of other areas. Perth, Adelaide and Canberra are all kind of remote for traveling purposes. The nightlife won't be huge but it will be adequate to go out and have fun, and you can always do a few trips to Sydney if you want a bit more excitement. Even though ANU has a very good reputation I think Canberra least fits your priority list.

I would say go to brisbane or the coast. i have lived in a few different places in australia. i went to uni in brisbane and it was great.
i live in sydney now, and i believe it is a great place to visit but not live.
