My husband and I got married Dec '06. He's in the Army and stationed in Germany. I'm still in the States, but plans are for me to go over there with him. We're working on the paperwork. What do I need? Any name changing like in IDs or passports? What?

Mine Joined in July 2002 and I had the Paperwork for my ID by end of the month. I went to a Reserve Unit and got mine as I didn't live close to an Active Base. I needed a copy of my BC and Marriage License along with that paper from my DH.

He 'should' get you enrolled in DEERS.
You will have to be Command Sponsored before the Military will pay for you to come over here to Germany.
You will need to be CS to get your Gov't paid Passport *you need THIS one to Travel over here on Gov't Orders as it has the SOFA Stamp in it...a Civilian one won't work!*
To get the Passport, you will need your BC/ML and a copy of the CS Orders. BUT you can start the paperwork to get the Passport and they can even be sent...you just won't be able to pick up the Passport without the CS Orders.
You will have to have the CS before your DH can get on Housing List....and the wait can be LONG for Gov't Housing due to the Base Closures and more Troops coming in...

If you have any other Questions, feel free to email me.

Marriage Lic.
Birth Cert.
Current. Passport
Soc. Sec. Card.
Drivers Lic.
Copy of you Husband's Current Orders
Is there a Military Base near you? If there is...Go to the Front Gate, Park ~ so you don't have people honking. They usually have a small office on site where you can get in contact with an Om Buds Man to help you out with every you will need....
I also suggest to bring a book ~ Military doesn't always move the FASTEST!!!!
Also, should you want to change your last name ~ you can obtain most of the forms on line so your not driving all over town..

He has to set things up from his end. However if you call the local Army base talk to Family Services about what is going on and they can tell you what you can do from your end. I don't think you can get an ID without him but you can go to the post office and fill out your application for a passport. They are expensive about$160.00.

NO NO NO. All you need to do is have your husband goto the DEERS office to fill out a form (and show your marriage certf.) with your basic info from name to address to social security # to heigh and weight etc... He is the sponsor and once he finishes that, he can mail that form SIGNED to you and you can take that to any military installation that has an ID card facility and get your military ID.

B/C you are a dependent all of those responsibilities fall on your husband to take care of (scary thought, I know). You're just going to have to push him to take care of the necessary steps..Good Luck!
