You're making just under $6 an hour, tax free, for three and a half hours of work.
Are you making dinner from scratch for her or are you heating up something the parents left? (In other words, is dinner complicated?) Helping her clean up her mess - does that mean you're picking up toys or are you vaccumming and washing dishes?
If you're only heating up and serving her dinner and picking up toys versus scouring the toilet, then, yes, you're making pretty good money. If they expect you to clean the kitchen like it was your own, aside from just loading the dishwasher after she has dinner (I assume you eat with her.) and if she was like an infant who can't do anything for themselves - THEN you'd be entitled to more money. Right now, you're not doing too badly!

Yeah, sure, but I know what you mean about feeling underpaid. I ask $5 an hour and so I am more than happy when I get that. You're lucky you don't have to deal with some of the "schmucks" that I do; one lady actually gets down to the cents. Like, if I babysat for 3 1/2 hours (like your 5:30-9:00), she would give me $17.50--no joke! And I never have to babysit just one kid; it's always 2 or more for that $5/ hour...So you're lucky that this person just gives you the whole bill. And yeah, I babysit every Friday night as well (check out my latest question): 7 kids, 2hours, and all for $20--now that's a rip off. I also know about babysitting the little kids--right now the youngest I've babysat was 3 months old--now that was always hard work: not just sippy cups, but bottles and burping, and about 10 diaper changes every hour (okay, so maybe that diaper # is exaggerated!, but still...). I also end up cleaning as well--actually I think that I clean more than I should: their house, no joke, ends up cleaner when I leave than when I first got there. Gosh! Just spilling all my guts out here to you has made me realize what a sucky job babysitting has been for me! Thanks, maybe I should consider a real job~ Good luck to you though! I hope you don't have to run into any of the annoying 'predicaments' or whatnot I just described :)
Have a nice day!

No way. I think your getting screwed over just because your young and they don't think you know any better. I don't know were you live, but I pay my babysitter $50.00 for watching my two year old little girl. Now that's considered very good pay, but she does a good job and my baby loves her. You should not take any less than $8.00 an hour. Just tell them that you had another offer to start babysitting another kid, and you would be working for who ever could pay you more. Tell them that you want $8.00 or your going to the other family. Or if your afraid to go that high just ask for at least $30.00 bucks instead of just a measly old $20.00. They are taking advantage of you.

I think that's plenty fair, unless you have special training that would qualify you for more money. If you want to boost your pay, I'd take some classes (many are offered through the YMCA or local hospital) on child development and first aid/CPR, or a general babysitting course. Having these qualifications, parents would feel the need to pay you accordingly for the time and effort that you have put in to making sure that their child is safe and being attended to by a qualified person.

I pay $10 an hour for 3 youngsters 5, 3, 2 - I determine she is a great babysitter and that i desire to maintain her around I could desire to pay her properly. I had somebody tell me $4 an hour as quickly as and that i refused, I informed her i mandatory to pay her a minimum of $8 an hour or i might experience like i replaced into taking benefit of her.

I think you get paid more than enough.
putting something to drink in a cup is far from difficult and dinner for a 3 year old isn't complex.
and does the little girl stay up until 9? I would doubt that, i'd think that's what time you'd be getting off.
you are 13 and i think that is a good amount of $$ for you, and it is a good lil job to help with responsiblity.
$20 is more than fair.

Yes that's more enough. 1 kid isn't that hard. If it was 3 or 4 kids you would deserve more money. But $20 a week is pretty good.

Have you taken a CPR class? Check your local hospital and community college and ask for babysitting courses you can take. Knowledge means more money.

Yes that plenty of money. That's over 5 dollars an hour. I don't pay babysitter that much for only one child.
