kickboxing is an excellent sport.. you learn boxing and asian kicking techniques, and depending on the school you go to, muay Thai striking techniques as well..

keep your eye out for some misconceptions.. american style karate, full contact karate is NOT kickboxing, not the sport, anyway.. full contact karate has long been considered american kickboxing but they are in actuallity two different things..

western style kickboxing has no gi or belts, you spar in a ring not on a tkd mat.. and it's truely full contact - head, body, legs.. only a mouth guard and groin cup, boxing shorts, no shoes, and regulation boxing gloves..

kickboxing is a great aerobic and anerobic sport.. you get a great aerobic workout with all the cardio training and conditioning.. and a great anerobic with all the contact with all the bags and body conditioning you do, it really strengthens the upper body and core.. the kicks are great for strengthening your shins, thighs and gluts..

great choice.. hope this helps!

Yes, but then I'm biased towards it. I've kickboxed for 7 years now, the last 4-1/2 competitively. It's great exercise, great for coordination, and loads of fun.

I take classes 3 times a week from a black-belt in karate. My classes are taught right at the Dojo.

kickboxing is only good for exercise or if you are a "kickboxer" and plan to do tournaments. Its not good for fighting, I only say this because there are not many techniques in kickboxing, and their use of "fists" is not complicated and can be easily blocked by someone who has trained in kung fu or karate for any short period of time. If you want to burn calories its great, but dont expect to be rambo or bruce lee from it (at all).

yes it is, as with any martial art, it helps you get fit, it's also very fun. If you compete, it's also rather safe, as it's a watered down version of muay thai, that does not mean that it cannot be brutal though! kickboxers have excellent high kicks.

Went to a class at our school, after 30 minutes my butt was kicked! Can't wait to go again.

We have a kickboxing heritage.

As a sport yes,but I would suggest to take up Muay Thai Thai Boxing, it invovles, elbows. knees and a wider stiking range. I would consider this as one of the best stand up stiking arts.

Hands, elbows, legs, feet, knees. Clinch work. it has a lot of what is needed and your fitness will vastley improve.

it is a great sport to take , just beware that your instructor is not an aerobics teacher who watched a video once.
