I say you can't download a word file from your e-mail if you don't have the program to support the file. Am I right or wrong? thanks for your help.

Yup. All you need is a viewer. This is not Word, just a program that allows you to view Word files.

Dont confuse downloading with opening. You can download anything, but you will need an application to open it.

Microsoft offers a free Word Viewer from their downloads section.

Open Office from http://www.openoffice.org is a free alternative to Microsoft office, which can read and compose word files.

You can download any file at any time even without the supporting software to view it.

You can download the file, but you won't be able to view it correctly. If you don't want to spend money on Microsoft Office you can use Open Office instead (it's free).
