Well, my toddler gets clothes from:
- Primark
- Matalan
- Asda
- Tesco
- Ethel Austin
The clothes are all good quality, despite what people say about them being cheap, and for the price of them, its not too bad if they get damaged.
I know you said not ebay, but what I do is look at the items local at me (there is an option to search within 10, 25, 50 miles etc), particularly those with high postage. There was recently someone selling about 10 tops and 7 or 8 pairs of trousers which had £10 postage on them. I put the minimum bid of £2 on them and won because noone else would bid as postage was so high - they were ten minutes away from me!
Also, try your local freecycle if you have one (search for freecycle in yahoo groups), as there are frequently childrens clothes on there for free.
And, to echo an earlier poster, NCT nearly new sales are worth a look too, I was suprised at some of the prices and ended up getting bags and bags of stuff and only spent about a fiver!! Have a look at http://www.nct.org.uk/ and you can search for events in your area.

Tesco and Asda are great, but an even better option would be to find a nearby NCT Nearly New Sale. Our sales are held twice a year and are now famous for very, very cheap clothes and toys (a lot of the stuff is brand new with labels still on, and there is plenty of designer gear too), and you can also sell your own things and earn yourself some pocket money! Contact your local branch for details.

I know a lot of people have already said Tesco and Asda - although they can be a bit pricey sometimes. You have to select carefully. The quality is good though - wash and tumble dry well. I usually pick stuff up in the sales - Tesco have them fairly regularly. I also find Peacock's great for littler kids clothes. They really are cheaper than anywhere else and do separates, coats, socks, vests, pants, shoes and are cheap enough to stock up.

Asda has really nice baby clothes, I get a discount because I work there so I get it for next to nothing. You can buy tops for 75p, I know that's so cheap but it's only for wearing in the house. Trousers for £1.50 and they fit really well. I sound like such a cheap skate but they have some really nice things for about £10, full outfits.

Hello, I know people might look down their nose at me but you've got to try Primark. Their kiddies clothes are really lovely and at prices you can't sniff at. They've actually been in a little trouble previously for selling children's and babies styles and designs very similar to brands like Monsoon. Obviously it's great for us as we can buy lovely looking kids clothes without paying through the nose - that'll teach those designer stores for over-charging in the first place!

Don't you have nice secondhand stores? I'm in the US, but I buy probably half my kids' clothing from one store that sells gently used kids clothing. Kids often grow out of things before they wear them out. You should be able at least to buy play clothes secondhand. That will free up a little money for buying the nicer things new if you have to.
