i have a friend who is 5ft8 and weighs 13 stone (83 kgs or 182 pounds), hes got pretty much no fat - just really muscular. is this bad for your health? i have been working out and put on a lot of muscle mass recently. it feels great but i worry that too much could be bad for your heart. especially cos you have to eat a lot to put on weight. in case its relevant, im an 18 year old guy, medium to heavy build, quite short.
thanks

I don't think this is unhealthy, in fact quite the contrary, UNLESS, you do something stupid, like take steroids to get you there.

Also, if you goal is overall health, rather than focusing on muscle mass only, you also need to incorporate some aerobic workouts as well, say, on a treadmill or elliptical machine.

It can be hard on your joints, later giving way to arthritis, degenerative joint disease, etc. Weight is weight and it puts a strain on the joints. However, a person who is muscular will generally be healthier than someone who is fat, even if they are both the same height and weight. I would suggest adding some cardio to your workouts. Good luck.

I had a cousin who was a weight lifter. And the doctor told him that his muscles were crowding his heart.

Not really, as long as you're reasonably fit - and even if not, I can't see a problem.

The very fact that you have that sort of physique suggests your cardio fitness is fine.
