Cats show love to their kittens by bathing them. It may just be that he is using this to show you love. I wouldn't worry about it too much. But I wouldn't let him lick you either. . .especialy since they bath themselves. . .ICK!

My cat loves licking me. It's SEVERAL times a day. Every time we're in the same room, he comes over. Then if he lays down by me, more random times. If I've been gone for awhile, he licks me almost violently and purrs. I was told it's his way of showing affection.

My cat licks me too. I know it's because they love us but I also agree with your thoughts about salt on our skin. I've had my cat 15 years and she's been doing it since she was a kitten.
Be thankful that you have a nice animal who is affectionate towards you and your boyfriend.

awww your cat is super sweet and loves you! To show your love back make they would love for you to lick them but that isnt something humans do to animals. So I give my cat a few kisses on her head to show that I love her back.

It's all the above!!! They lick to wake you up and move you. They lick you to groom you and show companionship. They love salty skin-so you are a giant salt lick. :)

Cats lick what they want to. Perhaps it's the salt, maybe how it feels on his tongue. Ours likes to lick my fiance's bald head while he sleeps-drives him nuts! She also likes to lick electric cords, but she knows better than to mess with the "live" ones. We let her have a rolled-up extension cord in her bed, and she loves it. She also likes to lick bows-like at Christmastime and binders. Who knows!!

The cat feels really comfortable around you and your bf. Cats lick people when they want to kiss them. Just be flattered, he is just showing affection.

cats are pack animals just like dogs. Your cat is showing you that he loves/cares for you and thanking you for caring for his needs

Cats often lick each other as a form of grooming, and to control temperature by keeping their fur smooth, which in winter traps heat and in the summer the saliva helps to cool them, it also helps to loosen fur so they can shed easier. Cats and kittens can be observed licking each other, and it is a form of affection as well as grooming. when your cat licks you and is purring, it is just showing affection and treating you as a member of its family. It is usually nothing to be concerned about, its just showing you that it likes you.
