When do you think they'll begin to see some serious product liability suits for intentionally manufacturing hazardous equipment, with full knowledge that and intention (Based upon multi media promotion.) it will be operated illegally, causing violent injury, & wrongful deaths?

Cite your fellow citizens, not the manufacturers. They build what sells. Judging by the sales of the high powered retro-cars like the new Mustang this trend will continue despite gas prices, etc. Also quite a few out there have large SUV's and Pickups with very powerful engines to pull their toys around. Things like boats, trailers, campers, dune buggies, motorcycles, etc. Lets face it part of this countries success is the consumer dominated market where we have to have the biggest and greatest of everything. So like it or not, it is the consumer that can change the manufacturer, and as long as they follow the Federal Guidelines for product safety they are pretty much safe from lawsuits.

OMG!!! did your parents never teach you how responsibility works??? This is stupid, guess what its fun to drive fast. I own a 400hp car that weighs 2600lbs and I have never wrecked on the street, I have wrecked on a track more than once...why BECAUSE IT ONLY MAKES AS MUCH HP AS I TELL IT TO!

Do you really believe that what Americans need is yet another excuse to not except personal responsibility??!!?? Can you figure out why in parts of Europe where they have no stop lights and fast or no speed limit at all they also have a much lower accident rate??!!??? Take responsibility for your own actions and don't try to punish the rest of the population for the irresponsible actions of a few.!!!

let me guess you also think guns should be illegal

because if they installed all the safety devices the fear activists insist on, cars would cost in excess of $100,000.

For instance, a woman leaves a 3 year old alone in the car with the keys in it, he puts it in gear, gets out and is crushed to death under the wheels.

Somehow this is the car manufacturers fault, and not the fault of a bad mother.

Because people buy them. It's not about the vehicle, it's about the idiot behind the wheel, pure and simple. The majority of vehicular deaths are unrelated to the vehicle's capabilities; it's down to the driver, and drunk drivers in particular.

I don't need the 'gummint' to protect me from myself, thank you very much. I would appreciate it if they'd get the DRUNKS off of the roads, however.

Because horsepower is like sex, If more is good then too much is just right. People don't only drive on the public streets. Also it is as important to power out of a potentially bad situation as it is to steer or brake away from it.

Because people keep buying them. Plain and simple. There are also tracks where people race them at higher speeds than what are allowed on highways. You actually think people wont modify their cars themselves just because auto manufacturers don't?
