A website that I could either advertise collection of unwanted furniture on or could view adverts from people who have unwanted items of furniture.

Craigslist.org and freecycle.com, just like everyone else has said. Also, find out if there is a goodwill store in your area. The stuff is not free, but it is super cheap.

Check to see if there is a Yahoo group called FREECYCLE in your area. People post all sorts of goods that they no longer need including furniture. Good luck in your new home!

You might want to do a Google search for "Freecycle". It started off with people getting rid of their things and in order to keep stuff out of landfills they posted what they had and other members contacted them if they were interested. Everything is free! No sales. This organization is worldwide now and you will be able to find one in your particular area.

Many of the Good Will type places in your local areas who do not deal in furniture may have an answer for you.

You might check Freecycle. But free furniture isn't something to count on.

However, if you hit yard sales, second-hand stores, and bulk stores, you should find some very good deals.

Good luck!
