I doubt that anyone can pinpoint who invented the meat ball, because they are made all across the world in various forms with different ingredients, and they can be found in recipes all the way back to Roman times.

Meat balls are akin to the concept of paint balls and were introduced in the middle ages for fun fighting, used as substitutes for the lead balls shot from canons.

The Italians.But first pannino di carne was born.Is the same stuff that meat ball but different size.The problem was to cook the paninno in the pot :was big.So,someone came with the idea to make it smaller and made the balls.In other words, the difference between paninno and meat ball is the size.

Sir Michael Meatball, an English aristocrat with not enough teeth to chew big pieces of steak, invented the meatball when he accidentally dropped the steak into his meatgrinder. Yup, he was frequently doing that. Anyway, he decided to try to salvage his steak and dropped the meatballs into tomato sauce that he happened to have simmering on the stove. And thus a food classic was born!
