How much do you pay a nanny?

We're looking to hire a nanny about 3-4 days a week for about 4 hours a day. They'd be off all summer and all holidays and it wouldn't really include any housekeeping. How much should I expect to pay? We're in the Houston area.

sounds like you need to pay per hour then. If they are qualified and have experience and good references i would say anywhere from $13-$20 an hour for 2 kids.

Some nannies are paid a set fee per week, but in your case, an hourly fee is best. I would expect to pay $10 for one child and $12 for 2. There's a helpful website, www.enannysource.com, where you can search for nannies in your area, though there is a membership fee. I am looking for a part-time nanny myself that would work only 4 hours a day. It's difficult to find a good, mature person because many of the experienced nannies want full-time work. I have just such a situation, hours-wise. Mine comes in M-F, from around 3:30 pm until 6:00 pm, and we pay her $8 an hour. I live in a Rocky Mountain state, though - I believe wages and cost of living may be a little higher in Texas.

You are paying someone else to be responsible for your children. Whats that worth to you? This is not something to be cheap on, remember you get what you pay for. :)
