Do a snake sandwich...kids love it and the adults will scarf it up. It can be as simple or busy as you want to make it...the basic recipe involves crescent dough; typically 2-3 cans depending on your size of snake (any brand), your choice of cold cuts and cheese (basic ham and swiss seem to go over very well) and some food coloring for "snakeskin" painting. Unroll one can of crescent triangles and lay them in single file on your pastry board/counter/whatever. Make sure they overlap. Roll them out a little bit to expand your surface area, but not so thin that the dough become transparent. Layer loosely shredded (just pull it apart with your fingers; don't mince it or slice it) Virginia ham or any cold cut of your choice down the snake "bottom" with alternate layers of cheese. Depending on the size, 1/2 lb. of deli meat should be more than adequate. The cheese shouldn't be too thick either, as you want it to melt. Unroll the other can(s) and cover the meats/cheese and roll the entire thing together, ensuring there are no open spots. Using your hands, shape the snake's "head" and curl the "tail" a bit. Using a fork or butter knife, make rattler impressions in the tail. Place two green capers where the "nose holes" should be, slice a jalapeno or other pepper into a small, forked tongue shape and place it into the "head," and use pimento olive halves for the eyes. Mix your food coloring (green/red/browns/etc.) with a small amoung of egg wash and paint on the "scales," stripes, etc. Bake as directed on the crescent dough package and serve on a platter terra or veggie chips as "leaves." It really is a lot easier and quicker to make than I'm making it out to be here...in any event, the kids and adults love it and it tastes great. It holds up well at parties and can be eaten warm or cold. Good luck!

Since mainly adults will be attending the party why not do what I did when my kids were little, which is to make some of your favorite appetizers and give them names that match the theme of your party. Put out some child friendly snacks as well. You will be surprised how many adults will help themselves to snacks they haven't had since they were young. Make bacon wrapped dates call them crock bites, raw vegetables can be the grazers platter, little meat sandwiches can be called whatever you like. I hope you are getting gist of what I'm saying, and I hope that I have been some help.

I would make up a tray of fresh exotic fruit kabobs. Drizzle some lemon juice on apples etc. to keep from browning. Pineapples, star fruit, mango, kiwi, melon, figs, dates. You could also add marshmallows and cherries. Add a dip mixed 1 to 1 with vanilla yogurt and marshmellow fluff. I presented the kabobs with skewers filled with fruit stuck into 1/2 melon on a pretty platter. Very eye appealing. Don't over stuff the kabobs to keep them from falling over.
