I am thinking about getting my third one either between the center of my shoulder blades (along the spine) or on my ankle.

your back isnt too bad, i mean all tattoos hurt. but WORST AREAS TOO GET TATTOOED ARE:
RIBS
CHEST
STOMACH
THE PIT OF YOUR LEG (behind your knee)
IN YOUR INNER BUTT CHEEKS (If you do a full back piece)
AND ELBOW

The spine is the most painful. All of your nerves are right there at the skin. Also the top of the foot is very painful for the same reason.Shoulderblades aren't bad at all. My first tat was on my shoulder blade and I hardly felt it being done.

It won't hurt that bad. But the most painful place will vary from person to person
In my opinion ankle tattoos aren't bad (and I'm thin as hell). I also have a tattoo on my neck and its right on the spine and that hurt like hell. But the worst of all my tattoos was the one on the knee, I stung getting it done and hurt to bend my leg for days.
My next tattoo will probably be on my foot and I'm assuming that will be worse.
Generally, I hear that the front of the neck, the skull, ears, chest and armpits are some of the most painful areas.

I would think that your spine would be the most painful place to recieve a tattoo. I have five, and the most painful was on my shoulder blade.

I have one across my rib cage... and that was a doosie...
but I think the one that hurt to most was the one on the side of my tummy leading down to my hip... that was a killed... I almost told my artist that I was done after the outlining...
Either of the places that you have listed are not bad at all... I have one on each and I sat there and just talked the entire time didn't feel a thing just the buzzing to needle

I heard that your back is. I was watching Miami Ink and they said it was the most painful cause theres alot of nerves close to the skin or somthing like that. so if your gunna get a huge one i wouldnt do a big onecause the big buff dude on the show was crying like a baby

i have a lot of tats including my ankle and that didnt hurt at all. the part of the body that hurt the most was on my sides. i have a tat going up my spine and it didnt hurt but it feels WEIRD vibrating..you can feel it all over, from the top of your head down to your feet!

I've got 1 on my shoulder and a little 1 between my knuckle and middle finger,mostly around the bone like the little1 i have and sensitive areas on your skin

i have one on my lower back(spine) and on my ankle and out of those two the ankle was definately the most painful. the most painful one i ever got was on my hip bone.

id have to say the ribcage for this one , ive got 5 , one at the bottom of my skull where the spine meets the skull , one inside my bottom lip , a pretty large piece on my right ribcage , one on my shoulder , one on my top vertebrae , and one on my lower back . none of them hurt , EXCEPT the one on my ribs.

THE FOOT. I HAVE A TATTOO ON MY LOWER BACK, SHOULDER, NECK, BEHIND, ARM, AND ANKLE BUT THE ONE THAT HURT WAS THE ONE ON MY FOOT. ALSO THE GUY THAT DOES MY TATTOOS HAS ONE ON THE ENTIRE LOWER PART OF HIS ABDOMEN AND HE PASSED OUT SO I ASSUME IT HURT PRETTY BAD.
