You can float stuff like candles, flowers, etc., in the pool for a lovely, romantic feeling. I would use candlelight, but also have electric lighting, since candlelight isn't very bright. As far as wedding favors, I will be blatantly honest with you, I usually throw them in the trash when I get them. I don't need a souvenir of someone's wedding cluttering up my already cluttered space, it's one more thing for me to deal with. HOWEVER, here's a couple of suggestions that I remember: Rule #1, Keep it edible/consumable. I loved the Krispy Kreme donuts one couple gave as we left the wedding, another couple had a candy bar (with candy in the wedding colors) which was fun. There were little bags, and we just filled the bags as we left. Rule #2, personalize it to the guests. Another wedding we went to, the photographer made a point of taking photos of each of the guests, if we were there with a significant other, then the photo was of the couple. At the time I thought the bride was completely anal wanting photos of each guest like this....BUT...We each got the photos with our thank you notes from the bride and groom. I loved it, because while I have plenty of photos of my kids, I don't have many of my hubby and I, and that was a photo where we were both dressed up and having fun. Hope those 2 suggestions help you, I just hate to see brides and grooms waste their precious money on wedding music CD's, wedding "tschotchis", etc., and then I wind up throwing them away.

For decorations how about some sort of tropical looking lanterns. Not the cheesy paper ones that you string up but actual metal lanterns lit with candles. You could also get some play ground sand and put down (on plastic sheeting to help with clean up) around the entire area or just the "alter" area. If it's a more casual wedding maybe put some inflatible chairs out for some of the seating but for more formal, possibly rent some nice deck/patio furniture. I think you can also rent plants so if there isn't any vegetation, you could put some tropical type potted trees or plants around.

As for the souveniers, you could go with the pool theme or not. Anything that is meaningful for the couple getting married is good. I used scrolls with a message on them when I got married.

I had my reception next to a pool, here are some of the things we did. The reception was in the early evening which makes the water in the pool shimmering with the right lighting. Our reception started right as the sun was going down, so we had a wonderful sunset during the reception which was also great for pictures. We put the same flowers that were in my bouquet in the pool as decorations. Our wedding was in Hawaii so we decorated the rest with Tiki touch lights with ribbons hanging down from them. Having an outside reception we didn't have to decorate that much due to there already being trees and greenery around. The hardest part was keeping the younger children from wanting to go swimming in the pool!!

place lily pads/flowers and floating candles in the pool for lighting. you could use tiki torches for a more beach kind of theme or those Chinese paper lanterns strung up for a more romantic type atmosphere....have enough of whatever you use to give off enough light but not so bright you think its daytime

i would say have the wedding part two hours or so before sunset. this will allow great lighting for pictures and such. also, that way when you are finished everyone will have time to eat before the sun goes down and you can spend the rest of the nite dancing away!

If there are trees around the pool..Not palm trees.. You could put white twinkle lights, like christmas lights in the trees, be sure to use the kind with the green wires, and not the white, and the white wires will stand out to much :P, Also you can put little shallow dishes with water in them and float candles on the table with flower petals in the dish.. as well as in the pool with the flowers :P..a great souvenir is Magnets.. Little wooden hearts with your names and the date on them..with a magnet stuck on the back :) or you can get chocolate molds, like a flower and tint white chocolate to the main color in your wedding, pour it in the mold, tap it. Insert a lollipop stick, and put it in the freezer for about 10 mins, take it out, wrap it in cello, clear works, and tie it with a curly ribbon inthe other color you have.. people really love that. Thats what I did at my wedding. Hope that helps!

ooo how lovely :) here are some ideas:

~ floating candles in the pool (could even be battery powered)
~ parasols
~ fire pits (if there's any chance it could be cold)
~ fairy lights (but not too near the pool!)
~ hire a band to play
