Hobbing and rack generation.

Hobbing progressively cuts each tooth around a wheel, the hobbing cutter and blank wheel both rotate to generate the finished tooth, its very accurate, no 'last tooth' effect but rather slow to complete.

Rack cutting is more often used to generate helical gears, this time the wheel alone is rotated white the rack traverses across the width of the wheel to form the tooth, not quite as accurate a hobbing but much faster to produce the finished item.

CNC and Casting. CNC is much faster and more cost effective, mainly used for tolerance specific applications . Casting is the mass production way, mainly used when tolerances are not critical.
