I am looking to part exchange my car. It has an intermittent fault which I am assured is easily fixable at relatively little expense. It is a 1992 (K) Ford Fiesta Flight in excellent condition for the year and ony 40,000 miles on the clock. What i want to know is how much I will be offered if I were to offer it in a part exchange??

you won't get that much for your car if your going for a part exchange. Cause other garages always have their own profit margin. i can gurantee that the ighest someone wil offer you for you car would be upto £800 not more than that, trust me. or may be a little more. Your be better of selling it privately.

Part-exchange is a con - get your car fixed, then sell it, it'll work out better for you... Most dealers will look at the stats - age, mileage, and condition and while 40,000 miles isn't much if you're intending to keep the car, it's right up there at the top end of what dealers can sell on. Most places won't be able to shift a second-hand car that's done more than 30k, especially if it's a 1992 model. So they're unlikely to offer you more than a few hundred for it, because they'd be unlikely to sell it on for more than 1k themselves. Ask around local dealers and see what they say...

Then:

Buy a copy of Which Car magazine (about a fiver, but the best investment you can make if you're buying and/or selling without knowledge of the trade) which will tell you how much to expect to pay for a car, and also how much to expect to get for it either at sale or as part exchange.

Good luck!

If the fault is so innexpensive to get repaired, have that done first. Secondly - DONT trade your car in /part exchange it - you will lose, simple as that. Stick your car on autotrader or adtrader, you will certainly get much more for it. Even dealerships offering minimum part exchange of 1000 quid etc is a con, they just make sure there is enough profit/rip off in the sticker price to cover any loss they make on trade ins etc.

In short, sell the car yourself - you wont regret it! take that from someone in the trade ;)

Beats me too. If you think it can be easily fixed, fix it and either sell or drive it.

You're asking about a 15 year old vehicle, and the lists for car value generally only go back the life of a vehicle, which is 10 years.

that would depend on what you were exchanging it for.also different places will offer you different amounts.check out car sale mags to give you an idea of what people are Selling them for privately to give you some idea as to its worth but remember you will get a lot less in part x.why not sell it private you would get more for it.

Most large garages will take the car although they will most likely deduct the cost of replacement keys from the price (usually £40-£100) and have the keys upon delivery as they wouldnt foot the bill for a tow truck.

In most cases I wouldn't even take it in part ex, most traders would send it to the scrapyard. So expect £40 for its scrap value, if they offer more, then the car your buying was overpriced in the first place.

part exchange will screw you. dont even bother your better off selling it privatly. especially because its a 1992. you cant get much for cars bought in 2006 so id just sell it privately. trade in u'll get about a grand, if that. because they cant realy sell it on can they

hi.
if you take it to a dealer they wont take it for more than £150 but it depends of the amount of work that needs to be done. if you were to p/x it then exchange it with a private seller. DONT GO TO DEALERSHIPS.
good luck
