I've have agreed to go with my ex (as friends) to his military ball. This being my first one, what should I expect? Is there anything special I need to do? All answers are appreciated. Thank you!

Dress formal. My friend's husband is a Marine and they go to those things all the time. I guess it is like a regular school dance. Nothing special. Just dress nice and be on your best behavior. (ie don't drink and dance on the table :P)

You can expect to find yourself with a large number of people, mainly men, who at some point in the past made a decision to join a group of people who travel all over the world dropping bombs on mainly innocent men, women and children in the name of corporate profits, usually energy corporations (though not always).

You can expect plenty of guys with very short hair who regard themselves as "killing machines" and who have absolutely no idea why there are in the military (otherwise, come on, why would they do that for George Bush).

You may come across some people who even love what they do. These people are the most dangerous though the least intelligent.

Good luck, enjoy!
