At the top of the page go into "Tools" then "Options". Under the "Edit" tab is where you'll find the toggle for overwrite on and off.

I believe you have accidentally hit the "insert" key which is one of the six keys above the directional arrows between the apha and numeric keys on the keyboard.

The newer versions of word also have a little 3 character display in the lower information bar which will "show" you if you have that key depressed or not.

Try "toggling" the insert function by pushing that key a couple of times and watch that lower information bar (it also tels you the page you are on, the section you are in if you've defined sections, etc.)

best,

cez

On the bottom of the page there are many symbols. The OVR is the overwrite. It is either blurry or solid. Double click on it until it works.

On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Edit tab.
then on tick next to where it says overtype mode
This is the same as double clicking OVR at the bottom

The 'Insert' button on your keyboard toggles the overwrite on and off.

Sometimes people press this key by accident and get frustrated because they don't know why the computer all of a sudden changed. And they don't know how to change it back.

Press the 'insert' key on your keyboard. That should hopefully work

overwrite and insert are toggles - ie, click on it once to change to the other one.
Good luck!
