Jehovah’s Witnesses? Yes, that is the way they refer to themselves. It is a descriptive name, indicating that they bear witness concerning Jehovah, his Godship, and his purposes. “God,” “Lord,” and “Creator”—like “President,” “King,” and “General”—are titles and may be applied to several different personages. But “Jehovah” is a personal name and refers to the almighty God and Creator of the universe. This is shown at Psalm 83:18, according to the King James version of the Bible: “That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth.”
The name Jehovah (or Yahweh, as the Roman Catholic Jerusalem Bible and some scholars prefer) appears almost 7,000 times in the original Hebrew Scriptures. Most Bibles do not show it as such but substitute “God” or “Lord” for it. However, even in these Bibles, a person can usually tell where the original Hebrew text uses Jehovah because in those places the substituted words are written in large and small capitals, thus: GOD, LORD. Several modern translations do use either the name Jehovah or the name Yahweh. Hence, the New World Translation reads at Isaiah 42:8, “I am Jehovah. That is my name.”
The Scriptural account that Jehovah’s Witnesses draw on for their name is in the 43rd chapter of Isaiah. There the world scene is viewed as a courtroom drama: The gods of the nations are invited to bring forth their witnesses to prove their claimed cases of righteousness or to hear the witnesses for Jehovah’s side and acknowledge the truth. Jehovah there declares to his people: “Ye are my witnesses, saith Jehovah, and my servant whom I have chosen; that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. I, even I, am Jehovah; and besides me there is no saviour.”—Isaiah 43:10, 11, American Standard Version.
Jehovah God had witnesses on earth during the thousands of years before Jesus was born. After Hebrews chapter 11 lists some of those men of faith, Hebrews 12:1 says: “So, then, because we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also put off every weight and the sin that easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.” Jesus said before Pontius Pilate: “For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth.” He is called “the faithful and true witness.” (John 18:37; Revelation 3:14) Jesus told his disciples: “You will receive power when the holy spirit arrives upon you, and you will be witnesses of me both in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria and to the most distant part of the earth.”—Acts 1:8.
Hence, more than 6,000,000 persons today who are telling the good news of Jehovah’s Kingdom by Christ Jesus in over 230 lands feel that they properly refer to themselves as Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Perhaps the better question is what non-witnesses have witness, who don't have an ax to grind.
They've witness an organization:
Of people who on the whole obeys the law, even the inconvenient ones, such as speed limits when late for work;
That believes in paying taxes, even though there are many ways they could avoid them, as many religions do;
That believes in keeping their word, such as to the IRS that they will not promote politics in the church, and they actually mean it;
That teaches their youth that waiting until marriage is preferable to using protection, and for the most part, the youths actually believe it....As a result, they have the lowest rates of out-of-wedlock births and STDs....Yes, there is the occasional ones who would rather have their fun now than wait, but there are far more who choose to wait;
That treats their youth with respect, not just "do what you're told!";
That teaches their youths side by side with the adults, the Bible as a whole, and not just Bible stories....The very young may not understand what they are being taught, but by the time you reach the age of understanding, they have a good basic knowledge of the scriptures;
That has congregations that never get so large that the individual gets lost in the crowd and since everyone is taught the same, it is easy to start a new congregation, with a set of elders;
That has members who know all other members, whether in their congregation, their city, or their county....When Katrina happened, they made sure everyone living in New Orleans could be found in Texas, with every individual accounted for;
That believes their Kingdom Halls should compliment a neighborhood, and not overwhelm it, so they are small and don’t include a lot of expensive decorative features....Each church can hold up to four congregations; and
That encourage all their members to read the whole Bible, over the last 100+ years, and submit their thoughts to see whether the religion could be following God’s Word better.
Finally, they will witness an organization where every member, over the age of 12, can answer the following question without just referring to a secular holiday in May:
WHAT DAY DO YOU OBSERVE THE MEMORIAL ON?

I've witnessed Jehovah's blessing in so many different ways.
I've seen Kingdom Halls get built inspite of all the opposition against it.
I've seen people whose lives were a mess, turn around and become happy and joyful people.
I"ve seen people who hated the witnesses become some of the most zealeous witnesses of Jehovah.
I've seen the NWT bible proven to be accurate in every scripture translated.
I've seen the prophecies Jehovah has given come true.
I've seen the love Jesus said his true followers would show.
I've seen pain and dispair turn into tears of joy.
(This is just a short list of the things I've witnessed Jehovah do in my life)

Jehovah's Witnesses both witness personally and bear witness to others regarding God's personal name, his majestic personality, and Kingdom purposes. In doing so, they align themselves with Jesus Christ and the prophets.
(Isaiah 43:10) “You are my witnesses,” is the utterance of Jehovah
(Isaiah 43:12) So you are my witnesses,” is the utterance of Jehovah, “and I am God.
(Hebrews 12:1-2) Because we have so great a cloud of [Jehovah's] witnesses surrounding us, let us also put off every weight and the sin that easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, as we look intently at the Chief Agent and Perfecter of our faith, Jesus
(Revelation 1:5) Jesus Christ, “the Faithful Witness”
(Acts 5:38,39) Do not meddle with these men, but let them alone; (because, if this scheme or this work is from men, it will be overthrown; but if it is from God, YOU will not be able to overthrow them;) otherwise, You may perhaps be found fighters actually against God.”

I have to say that I hardly refute anyones religion. I just share with them mine and if they don't believe well, the seed is planted. It is not in my character to put down another religion. But, I have to say, I am very fearful for this particular group. I have read lots about the watch tower and the Bible they use that has many words completely turned around. They claim that they have the true doctrine. Their watchtower book has been modified over and over again. Yes, if anyone is interested I will go back through my research and show you where, when and by who if necassary. How it started etc. It's incredible the amount of effort someone took to modify the Holy Scripture. They claim Jesus wasn't worshiped and He was. etc Once I sat side by side with my friend who was a Jehova's witness and looked at His Bible vs mine. They had changed it to say that the exact opposite of what mine did. Same verse. Many verses are like this. Not all though. You have to know know know the Holy Bible before you talk to them about their religion though. If you don't they could confuse you too.

Nothing worth hearing! My aunt invited some in to talk. I refuted everything they said easily, for I have a degree in Philosophy and took Bible History in college. The name of Moses' god should probably be Yahweh, not Jehovah, according to modern Bible scholars. The Witnesses do not even know that. Two ladies came to Mom's while I visited and said they had talked to a lady there. They offfered their junk tracts without mentioning who they were. When I saw the were JW's, I threw the junk in the trash and ordered them to stay away. Mom is old and not interested.

False witness... How many times have they claimed that Jesus has already returned, quite unlike how scripture says that will happen.

When we go out door to door, we are encouraging Bible reading. Even if nobody ever listened to us from here on out, we would still continue to do it because we are told to do it. True Christians must preach about God's Kingdom. Jesus did so. He always talked about the Kingdom. "Shortly afterwards he went journeying from city to city and from village to village, preaching and declaring the good news of the kingdom of God. And the twelve were with him "-(Luke 8:1) He commanded his disciples to preach this same message in all the earth at this scripture. (Matthew 24:14; 28:19, 20) True Christians believe that only God's Kingdom will bring true peace and security to this earth. "Do not put YOUR trust in nobles, Nor in the son of earthling man, to whom no salvation belongs. His spirit goes out, he goes back to his ground; In that day his thoughts do perish. Happy is the one who has the God of Jacob for his help,
Whose hope is in Jehovah his God,"—(Psalm 146:3-5) Don't we all strive to walk in Jesus foot steps? So not only are we commanded to preach, we want to follow in his foot steps.
"Jesus said to him: "Have I been with YOU men so long a time, and yet, Philip, you have not come to know me? He that has seen me has seen the Father [also]. How is it you say, ‘Show us the Father’?" - John 14:9)
Since Jesus perfectly reflected the personality of his Father, whom only the Son fully ‘knew,’ seeing Jesus Christ was like seeing God himself. "All things have been delivered to me by my Father, and no one fully knows the Son but the Father, neither does anyone fully know the Father but the Son and anyone to whom the Son is willing to reveal him" —(Matt. 11:27) So Jesus was a perfect reflection of his father, and we want to follow in is footsteps and follow his commandments.
We are looking for people who want to have accurate knowledge of the Bible, but on the flip side we also know that people also don't like us, we were warned in the Bible of this.
Jesus Christ left no doubt about what being his disciple would involve. "A slave is not greater than his master," he told his followers. "If they have persecuted me, they will persecute you also." Jesus was hated "without cause." (John 15:18-20, 25; Psalm 69:4; Luke 23:22) His disciples could expect the same—opposition without justifiable basis. On more than one occasion, he warned them: "You will be objects of hatred."—Matthew 10:22; 24:9. Consequently, Jesus urged prospective followers to "count the cost" of discipleship. (Luke 14:28, Revised Standard Version) Why? Not so as to decide whether they should become his followers or not, but so as to be determined to fulfill what is involved. We as JWs have to be prepared to endure any trials or hardships that come with the privilege. (Luke 14:27) No one forces us to serve Jehovah as a follower of Christ. It is a voluntary decision; it is also an informed decision. We know beforehand that in addition to the blessings that we will experience from entering into a dedicated relationship with God, we will be "objects of hatred." So we are not puzzled when we meet with opposition. We have ‘counted the cost,’ and we are fully prepared to pay it.—1 Peter 4:12-14
Jehovah’s Witnesses today have been "objects of hatred" in various lands. Yet we do not hate non-Witnesses; On the contrary, they are known worldwide for practicing genuine love that crosses all social, racial, and ethnic barriers. We go door to door because it is a command and out of love for our neighbor. "You must love your neighbor as yourself."—MATTHEW 22:39 So we preach the good news of the Kingdom and tell others of God’s great act of love and this can result in salvation to any who listen.—Mark 13:10; 1 Timothy 4:16.
