Because the truth never gets in the way of a good story. People will believe anything to deny the perfect nature of Christ.

People actually accept it as fact? How strange. I didn't think people would actually do that.
I hear folklore (and movies and TV shows have centered on this) where an actor is confused for the character he plays. The nutso fan believes he can affect the plot/story by talking to the actor as if he were the character. If such people really exist, then I guess I can see how people can accept the Da Vinci Code as fact.
Then again, there are people who regard the Holy Bible as fact, too. Granted, it doesn't have FICTION stamped across the cover, but it might as well have. After all, it is a book written by several men who didn't necessarily know each other or even the events they wrote about. It has been translated through mortal men with agendas and mistakes of their own. Yet, there are some strange people who worship the Bible and claim it tells them what God wants.
I agree with you that it is most strange when people look to a book simply for truth. The Da Vinci Code is simply entertainment. The Bible is simply literature. Let's not forget that these are simply books.

First, what in the DaVinci code is contrary to anything in the bible? The bible makes no mention of whether or not Jesus took a wife and, in fact, that would be evidence that he did. At his time, an unmarried man in his thirties was an anomaly which called out for an explanation which Jesus could have easily given but which he did not. The easiest explanation is that he was married and had nothing to explain. The birth of a daughter would also have merited mention but, at least according to legend, Mary had not given birth at the time of the crucifixion.
Second, the DaVinci code may be fiction but it is based on teachings which date back to the early church. Some of the history cited in the DaVinci code is fact and some seems to be false or exaggerated. The same could be said for the stories in the bible (although I recognize that fundamentalists would say that those that seem false are actually true).
Lastly, why are Christians so scared by the concept of Jesus as a married man? If god wanted to make himself flesh shouldn't he be heir to all that flesh is heir to?
Besides, if he felt he should suffer for the sins of humanity, what better way to suffer than with the help of a wife (not to mention a mother-in-law)?

I just recently watched the movie, but I didn't read the book. A lot of people take it as fact because for them it is "fun" to discredit the Bible. Anyone who takes that story as fact are just as blind as those who believe the Bible is without error. I am not trying to down the Bible as I am a follower of Jesus, but I also have a God-given mind and a discerning heart to know that God is not limited by such a book. Of course, most of Christianity is based on the fact that the Bible is inerrant so I'm sure I offended a lot of you out there. Sorry!

i read Holy Blood Holy Grail a decade ago, long before the DaVinci Code got on the best sellers list and was made into a blockbuster movie. tho it's just a theory the book was meticulously researched and made a whole lot of sense within the context of history, which is more than i can say for the Bible. the Bible is a book i've also read.

Some of us are not stupid enough to believe the DeVinvi Code is fact. In fact, we know it isn't fact.
I can't speak for everyone but I do read my Bible.

I doubt if alot take it as fact.
But, they are probably accepting life as it as then. If a Jewish man was past 20 and not married, with a family, he was considered very odd, and well-----really weird. Jews lived by the command of G-d ''to be fruitful and multiply'', and it was considered very wrong not to do this.
Many people may consider the DeVinci Code to be fiction, but it did depict how life REALLY was for the Jews in Jesus's time. So, he was most probably married and had a family.

Many people, particularly if they are intellectually dishonest, will choose the belief system that best allows them to live a relaxed moral lifestyle. Believing in the God of the Bible and Christianity places certain demands on a person's life which many find uncomfortable. It's easier to deny that God exists than to accept His existence and live accordingly.

It makes people wonder. However, I don't believe that Jesus was just a man and still hold him devine. It did make me wonder if he did marry Mary Magdeline and if they had a child. Most likely, though, they did not since the bible doesn't talk about any of that. It is mere speculation.
