Local animal shelter, animal rescue league, petfinder.com, newspaper, PetsMart (look at the ads as you walk in the doors)

as long as there are dogs in rescues and shelters, i do not believe in buying a puppy from a breeder. i would recommend you look at petfinder.com to see if there is a puppy or dog there for you. puppies are alot of hard work so i always advise people to look into adult rescue dogs. they are all vetted, house trained and extremely loving and grateful to find their new furevver home. so many dogs die everyday that it seems wrong to get a breeder dog. petfinder.com does have puppies and young adults. good luck

Get your puppy from your local animal shelter! There are so many stray animals; it's heartbreaking. We got out puppy from our local shelter, and she's wonderful. Plus, puppies from animal shelters are a lot cheaper than buying one from a breeder (that is, of course if you don't mind mutts).

Try to avoid pet stores, since they often get their puppies from puppy mills (http://www.stoppuppymills.org/). Good luck! A puppy is a lot of work, but SO worth it. :)

go to www.petfinder.com

you can find a shelter/rescue group near you or search for a particular breed of puppy within a certain distance from your zip code.

I would try a shelter first, that's were I got my first dog. It would probably be cheaper, they get their first shots and maybe even a chip and spayed/neutered. If you can't find anything you like there, try the classifieds in your local paper.
