Heartguard meds will take care of a variety of worms beyond heartworms. When we had a rescue pup a while back, the vet said we could get him on the preventative and that would finish up any worms issues that pups can be born with.

Even dogs that live inside can get intestinal parasites by stepping in their eggs outside. Even though you may not see any other dog's stool in the yard, the eggs could still be there. Taking your dog to the vet for a fecal test once a year is recommended to make sure there's nothing there. Heartworm medication is recommended to prevent dogs from getting heartworms because they don't always cause noticeable symptoms and they are deadly.

Humans can get two kinds of worms that dogs have - one of them is roundworms, which come out of dogs' stool looking like spaghetti. If your dog has these or if you don't know, keep your yard cleaned up and make sure all members of your family wash their hands.

At least once a year, a vet check-up is recommended for all your pets, whether they go outdoors or not!

All dogs have worms inside or outside. They should be wormed at least 1 x per month for heart worms and general worms. There are all kinds of worms,Tapeworms are caused from fleas,so if the dog ever gets fleas he probally has tape worms, even if he doesn't go outside.Tapeworms can be transmitted to humans but it is through fecal contamination.I doubt if your Mother-in-law is transmitting worms to your children. However if she loves her pups she must have them dewormed at least 1 X per month and vaccinated as per vets order.Your babies Grandma needs to have her babies checked and you won't be so worried perhaps with the money she is saving you and your husband on babysitting you could offer to help her get the dogs to the vet for proper treatment. That would be an easy and polite way of getting your concerns answered and eased.Good Luck!!!!!!

I never heard that one is supposed to deworm their dogs twice a year.................
Every dog should be on heartworms prevention, which is given monthly, and keeps them free of intestinal worms also.
Have your dog checked out by a vet, and put him on the prevention, so you don't have to worry about worms in your dog, nor for you and your family members to catch any.

When you start giving your dog heatworm preventative medicine most of those are good for all types of worms. You give the heartworm meds once per month and they cover all the types of worms a dog can get.
So if you give like Heartgaurd Plus you never have to worry about any worms.
