But the Christian religion doesn't know.

Your soul goes to heaven or hell depending on whether or not you are saved according to the Christian dogma. Of course, every Christian religion has a different idea of what "being saved" is or exactly when you go to heaven or hell.

It's amazing how many people that don't believe in Christianity attempt to answer this as if you wanted to know what an Atheist believes.

Something interesting for you all!

The Bible talks about a place called "Hades" or She'ol (spelling?) and when I was a Christian I discovered there was this place "beneath the earth" that people would be taken up (Revelation) when the new Earth and the new Heavan was created. This is taken from the Bible but Christians do disagree with what exactly happens. And Catholics also believe very differently again.

But according to the Jewish belief, there is a place where souls go called She'ol (I don't have time to look it up) and thus the Christian belief as well. However, what happens afterward is accounted in Revelation where all these souls will be taken up.

The Almighty formed the man (Adam- means man) from the dust, dirt of the ground and when He breathed life into the man he became a living soul. You don't HAVE a soul, you ARE a soul. When you die your thoughts cease. The dead know nothing. The dead do not praise the Almighty. It is appointed to man once to die, and after that the judgment. We each will be judged. (we won't be there for the process, but the Almighty will judge who is to come up in the first resurrection- to eternal life- and who will come up in the second resurrection- to end in the lake of fire. -and while I'm on that subject, let me say that the lake of fire is a very short and thorough cleansing of the earth. Sin must be eradicated, and the Almighty is the only one who can do it. Sin and sinners will be no more) Death is like a sleep (and was referred to as such by the Messiah regarding Lazarus, the brother of Mary and Martha). No human person has naturally in themselves the righteousness of the Messiah, and nothing short of that will measure up. Therefore only those who have by faith received His righteousness will qualify to be resurrected to life. (Needless to say, that is the short answer. Quotes can be cited if requested)

We rest until Christ returns for us.

"For the fate of the sons of men and the fate of beasts is the same; as one dies, so dies the other. They all have the same breath, and man has no advantage over the beasts; for all is vanity. All go to one place; all are from the dust, and all turn to dust again." (Ecclesiastes 3:19-20 RSV)

"No one has ascended into heaven but He who descended from heaven, the Son of man." (John 3:13 RSV)

"And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt." (Daniel 12:2 RSV)

Ecc 12:6 Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern.
Ecc 12:7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

2Co 5:6 Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:
2Co 5:7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)
2Co 5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

The Christian idea of the soul confuses it with the Indwelling Spirit of God; the "Holy Spirit." The human soul is a growing spiritual reality that is the product of God's indwelling Spirit and the mind and morals of the individual. The soil of the evolving soul is human and material, but the destiny of this combined creation of mind and spirit is spiritual and divine.

When death overtakes you, what happens to you, your identity, depends on how much soul growth has occurred during your life. The soul is really the "embryo" of your future life vehicle of personality identity. The more mature your soul, the more likely it is that you will be resurrected "on the third day," as Jesus demonstrated after his death.

Less soul growth means you become a "sleeping survivor"-- your soul and personal identity are the responsibility of your Indwelling Spirit and your guardian seraphim, a celestial being charged with the responsibility of safe-guarding the soul during the transition period between the material life and the spiritual awakening on the next world.

When you are resurrected, whether your sleep has been long or short, your Spirit unites your personality with the "transcript" of your identity and your soul. You will know, and you will be known, as the personal being you are now; death adds nothing to your experience other than the realization that you have survived the material life in the flesh; and that you are now in a new body, just as Christ was when he was resurrected (see John's account: "Touch me not, Mary, for I am not as you knew me in the flesh.)

In the next world, you will be asked to give an account of your endowments and stewardships of this world. Whether your inherent talents are few or many, a just and merciful reckoning must be faced. If you use your endowments only in selfish pursuits, with no thought upon the higher duty of obtaining increased yield of the fruits of the spirit, such selfish souls must accept the consequences of their deliberate choosing. And lest you think I'm referring only to those who are ignorant of God, remember the words of Jesus:

"In the great day of the kingdom judgment, many will say to me, 'Did we not prophesy in your name and by your name do many wonderful works?' But I will be compelled to say to them, 'I never knew you; depart from me you who are false teachers.' But every one who hears this charge and sincerely executes his commission to represent me before men even as I have represented my Father to you, shall find an abundant entrance into my service and into the kingdom of the heavenly Father."

Forget the religious dogma. You , Me , Everyone , wether they accept it are not are the Creator's children. We have the freewill
to be anything we choose because of His love. You are created eternal and when you die in the flesh.Your soul and spirit are free to enjoy the rest of His creation!!That is the universe. But the choice is yours. He gives the understanding of all His truths to those who ask of Him.You can wait until you are dead to understand or as I have choosen.I just could not wait that long. But you do have to believe it to receive it. His greatest wish is that we all do not wait till death.

Yes, there is life after death, but there are those who erringly believe that once you die, you cease to exist until the resurrection. This is problematic for two reasons: First, it contradicts scripture. Second, if a person dies and ceases to exist, then he is in the same state he was before he was born: non-existence. Therefore, at the resurrection, it is not he who is raised from the dead. No, instead, a copy of the original person is produced. Nevertheless, the Bible definitely tells us that there is life after death:

Jehovah's Witness? Latter Day Saints? Or any of the hundred or so other variations? And no, they aren't all the same and they don't all interpret the bible in the same manner.
