Windex on a Q-tip is a bad answer! The Windex is too harsh and the cotton too abrasive.

Use a special lens cleaning cloth or a clean, soft microfiber cloth. You can just breathe on the lens and gently wipe and most smudges will come off. If that doesn't work, there are lens cleaning fluids available, made especially for camera lenses.

In a pinch, you could use a soft hanky or t-shirt, but be sure there are no sand particles or anything that might scratch the lens and wipe gently. Do not use paper towels or Kleenex, as they contain wood fibers that will scratch over time.
