Absolutely. If you call enough people, there is going to be someone out there who wants your product, otherwise, the product isn't worth while. Depending on the industry, the close rate can be anywhere from .01% (luxury goods, corporate finance) to 5% (long distance and personal finance).

I have been told that cold calling works if you keep at it because the odds are you will get some interest among the disinterested responses. That was then, this is now.
You need to check out a few laws on this. For example, the do not call list, etc. Breaking these laws can get you a heafty fine at the least...not what you are after. You also have to follow some other things, for example, if you phone someone and use a recording, you must give the answerer an opportunity to reach a real person or be able to take their name off of your list.
Just be sure you are "up to speed" on your laws. They are to protect privacy, etc.
I, for one, hate getting unsolicited calls, e-mails, etc. because I would rather look for a product or service if I need it than have sales people bugging me all the time...and there are alot of people out there doing just that. Why would I want to buy your product, if you make me mad by bugging me?
So I would prefer advertising with a special deal or coupon to bring in the clients. Put that ad in a newspaper flyer or something...perfer not the mail. Just a thought.

The Answer is YES: You have to know how. First thing is you need to know who you are calling and if they will have any interest in your product.
The first step is qualifying a person as a reasonable prospect for an offer.
I called pizza shops and asked for the owner, when the owner came on I told him/her I was a stock broker and there is a stock that his/her back ground in business would make him/her an expert in a decision to buy or not buy. When asked what it is, I said I will mail the information to you just give me your address and best contact phone number. One day I compiled 40 address, mailed the information. Five days later, I call the prospect and asked have you received my mail? What thoughts do you have in reference to the company. Since the stock I was pitching was producing Flour and making it available at a time that other flour producers are out of stock; It make sense that the company would have an easier time moving its product.
Once I got the prospect to agree that the chances are good for this company, the logic of owning a piece of the rock made sense.
If no sale, I still made a contact that I sold stock of other companies.

yes it does, but you have to remember it is a numbers game! the problem with COLD calling versus WARM calling is the numbers vary drastically on how many people are willing to even hear you out. just be persistantand keep smiling. beleive it or not people can actually hear you smile over the phone.good luck

I have experience with cold calling with long distance, a pharmacy, and a mortgage company and I can assure you- IT WORKS. It is all a numbers game- if you contact enough people- you will find clients/ customers.
