The Title is issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles in your area. It basically has all the info about the car and you, if you are the owner. IF you paid cash, you should have gotten the title from the dealer, if not you can request a duplicate from the DMV. The same place that you go to get the registration. It will usually take a few (2-3) weeks to arrive.

A car title is the legal deed to your car, stating that you own it. The registration just says that you paid taxes on it and have valid plates/registration for it. If you owe money on the car, then it may have a lien on the title and you may only have a provisional or duplicate title; if not, you should have gotten a copy of your title after you purchased the car stating that you own it outright. You definitely DO need the title to sell the car, at least in any state I know of. Contact the county clerk where you registered your car; that office should be able to help you get the document you need.

The title is a paper from the state which says YOU own the car. The registration is something else, which proves you paid the taxes and fees on the use of the car. If you got the registration, you should have had title at the time. Check your paperwork, if you do not have it, contact the County Clerk and REcorder who can direct you where to get the title.

It is like the DEED or proof of ownership to your car. The registration does not prove that a bank does not own the car. A title will show if you owe money or if it is free and clear.

Yes, you can sell it without a title but you need to disclose that you're seling it without a title. Whoever buys it will not be able to drive it until they get a title for it. So you might have a hard time selling it or might not get as much for it because people won't want to deal with the hassel & they may not believe you own it so they're taking a risk. So your best bet is to go to a tag agency with all the info, vin number, insurance etc & they can order a new one for you or contact the DMV

No, it is not the registration, but it was required to get the registration, you should have gotten a title when you bought the car.

The title of your vehicle is what gives it ownership. If the title of the vehicle is in your name, it means you purchased the vehicle. If the title is "free and clear" it means no money is left owed to the car. You have the title in your possession, and the car is no longer financed. You can look online for the closest Department of Motor Vehicles for answers to your questions.

The title is a certified document issued by your state that proves ownership of the vehicle. To get one for your car you are going to have to prove ownership and apply for a lost title in your state. Contact the DMV...
