The beliefs of yesterday are now referred to as mythology (Greek, Roman, Norse, Native American mythology), and no one in their right mind claims them as true.

Yet we still have rampant religion today... What separates these two?

Why is your religion special when there are dozens in practice today?

Puppy: "if it doesn't hurt anyone". How can you look at the daily events of this world and say that religion isn't hurting anyone? From the Sunni and Shi'a conflict in the Middle East to the Protestants and Catholics in Ireland to the Evangelical Christians trying to spread anti-evolution propaganda, religion is still causing daily suffering.

By the way, the mention of Native American beliefs was intentional to blur the line. Besides, if you've studied Native American history, you will know that there were many different tribes, not all of which survived to this day, and their beliefs died with them.

My religion is very simple ... I can find answers to questions very easily. I don't need anyone to tell me what's right and what's wrong only if I know how to read and have a little common sense. I trust the source because it has many scientific miracles which were not know to human beings at the time it was revealed. Its teachings are logical and acceptable for normal human beings.

Editing: And about religion hurting others, I believe that it is exactly the opposite of religion that hurts !!! When people start going away from God they hurt others. As for the religion I follow there is no room for hurting others, it is not allowed to form sects and it is not allowed to impose the religion on others.

I am a Southern Baptist because they believe the word of God is without error, and they preach from it every Sunday and Wednesday evening, providing us with application for our own lives.

They believe the events in the Bible, and try to live their lives in a way that is pleasing to God and Christ.

The specific church that I attend is a mega-church, and one of the richest churches, and yet they are down to earth people who will do anything they can for anybody.

They live the life they proclaim.

They just built a 48 million dollar structure to minister to those who live in the downtown area.
It is a beautiful structure.

Because there is one truth and many lies. Since the fall of man, Satan has used man to mislead him from truth. Satan has used man's pride to follow him in the forms of "religion" by letting man make the standards, and redefine what is true to conform to what man wants, so he can be his own god, instead of submitting to the THE truth which is Christ.

You also can not judge the "what the Bible says" by what people do "in the name" of Christ. For most of the time the "bad" things that are happening are because of people that do things that call themselves Christians are not.

You must judge the Book by the Book and what it teaches, not by what mislead people do with the truth that is given to them.

24 Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, 25 because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.

I think this is like asking, what makes today's teenager see themselves as different from yesterday's teenager? I remember reading a quote from Aristotle, saying that the next generation was so lazy, so disobediant that they would surely accomplish nothing.
Everybody swears "It's different this time." People, in their minds, will think the difference is theirs is real and the others are fake. They cannot look from an outside perspective.

I think Native Americans would disagree with you on that one.

One person's mythology is another person's religion unfortunately. If it doesn't hurt anybody then I don't have a problem with it.
