There's a finite number of passengers--- only a certain number of seats, and the airlines calculate an average passenger weight based on the number of seats. Baggage is a lot more variable; you could pack the same bag with pillows or with bricks and have very different weights, but someone who fits into one seat will usually not be over a certain weight. Anyway... a plane has to have a certain amount of fuel to make its trip; once you load the passengers and the bags, they load the fuel. The minimum fuel weight is never more than the maximum passenger weight plus the maximum baggage weight, and if the plane needs more balancing, more fuel can be added. But what it all comes down to, since an airline seat is only so big, the airlines can make a decent estimate on what their maximum passenger weight total will be; you can't do that with baggage because you don't have any idea what people will pack.

On most airlines, it is around 50 pounds per suitcase/checked item. You're usually allowed to have up to two checked items and two carry-on items. This is mandated by airlines, and not by the airport (in the case of LGA, the Port Authority). However, this can vary, depending on the airline or aircraft.
Have a good trip!

Depending on your destination and on the airline, the limit is usually 20 kg to 25 kg (30 in few cases). So the best way to know for sure is to call the company and ask. By the way sometimes when checking in, hostesses can be more or less flexible depending on their personality and on the company's directives

Normally the weight limit is 50lbs per checked bag. They will charge you for anything over that. This is a airline rule, not airport, so you should check with the airline you are flying with

Its the airline that decides - not the Airport. 22Kg is usual.

You can take more, but will be charged excess baggage. Best bet is to check with the airline you are travelling with. Alternatively, if you already have your tickets, it may say on them, if you have booked via an agent - you could ask them.

Bon Voyage !!

The weight limit depends on the airline. You should call your airline to find out what their policy is. If your bags are overweight, you will incur big penalties.

There may also be size limits also, again, call your airline and check.

I believe the max for the luggage is 50 lbs. I would suggest though that you check directly with your airline as it may vary depending upon what type of aircraft that you will be traveling in.

I think 30Kg is the most widely acceptable limit by most airlines operators.
I also witness that first class has an additional 10Kg above economy class.
